Foal quality and dam age
-
Hello, just wondering a mare continues to produce foals of comparable quality as she ages. Will mares continue to produce consistent AFPT or is there a recommended age to retire them from the pasture?

Their breeding ability is static, but that does not mean they will produce a consistent AFPT. An awesome broodmare can still produce a low PT now and again. It depends on both the sire, and luck, as all mares have a range of PTs they can produce.ID 108

Maribo is right. Even your best mares will throw a dud every once in a while. Some of my best foals have come out of older mares. One mare was kind enough to gift me with an outstanding best of pasture filly right before she passed away.
