What does it mean?

Foundation horses are the ones created by the computer from scratch, so all the genes are (basically) random. Lined horses have a mom and dad that exist on the game, so their genes combined to make the lined horse. So a lined horse is any generation from 2 on up.

You can see the sire, dam, grandparents and great-grandparents (if any) on the Family tab. If there are more than those generations, there will be a small + under the picture of a great-grandparent.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
