2 pasture groups foundations
-
How do you all decide which mare goes with what studs. I am going to try to use 4 of my 11 studs this season. I am wanting to split my 60 foundation mares into two 30 groups. I have one RS stud and 1 regular create picked for my studs.
How is the best wy to pick the mares for them? -
I would just make sure you don't have any lethal white combinations.

Agree with Goobanni regarding the lethal white factor, and also I would choose the highest quality foundation stallions to go with your mares. For example, an ExPerf/ExPro RS and a Perfect Foundation/Top Notch Producer create stallion would be my two picks which will boost the quality of the G2 mares.
I have an ExPro RS who you could 'borrow' if you'd like?
I would put the mares in the pasture now, to get as many days for the pasture bonus as possible.
To split them, I would go through and PT each (which isn't a breeding ability factor, however if you can get the best all round breeder/shower for G2 then that is a bonus), and create a benchmark for all (say, PT of 9 - 9.9 is the average PT) - so anything above 9 goes in one, and 8.9 and under in the other. I would also paper any mares that have had 3+ foals and put any Red in the higher quality one, and Yellow papered in the other. Red is higher than Yellow on the papering scale.
ExPerf RS stallions have a PT of 10.4 and paper B, and ExPro have a PT of 9.9 and also paper B.
PF/TNP stallions also have 100% breeding ability.
Hopefully that all makes sense!AztecArabians
