Showing as it is now
The 8 levels of showing started with the very earliest iterations of the game. The current set points that sort horses into the diffrent showing levels is over 15 years old. When this was set up breeding programs were much weaker in the game so hitting 8W was a rare event. Showing is set up so each show should have scores that range in a roughly 10 point band of ability. For example at 8L we can expect to scores scores ranging from about 270 to 280.

On bluegrass server right now there are 114,478 recent show results for 8L. 96.3% of those show results fall in the 270 to 280 range.

There are 97,031 recent show results for 8R. 90.2% of those show results fall in the 280 to 290 range.

There are 82,084 recent show results for 8N. 95.8% of those show results fall in the 290 to 300 range.

As you can see these lower levels are evenly spaced and very predictable.

Then there is 8W. Bluegrass has 167,960 recent 8w show results. The scores range from 296 to 351. If we followed the prior spacing 8W should cap out at around 310. 60.5% of all recent 8W results are over 310 score.

Level 9 to the rescue
GP Elite level showing is being added to the game. The ability for level 9 shows to run is already live, it just needs horses that can enter them to allow it to run. Level 9 shows cost the same amount to enter and give the same amount of pay out. They also require the same number of entries as level 8 shows. They do however reward more points than level 8. That means for the same cost as 8W you can now earn a lot more points.

The goal is to split 8W into 5 evenly sized classes instead of one giant one. To do this I found how many results were recorded for each score then broke them up into evenly sized groups. There should end up being roughly 35k show results at 8w, 9L, 9R, and 9N classes. 9W should end up with roughly 25k horses, and cover scores over 330, though I am pretty sure I will need to tweak the set points for 9N and 9W to get those numbers to land exactly.

Bluegrass Trial
I have done as much testing and pre-calculations as I can. To go any further I need real data, so I will be carefully trialing this on bluegrass server. Only bluegrass will be leveling up to 9 right now. Once I get the numbers I need GP Elite will unlock for all the serves.
