Satin and Sabino (w15) updates
-
Thank you to everyone who gave feedback about satin and voted on it on our discord server. Over 100 people responded in some way which really helped provide clarity. The community was split between wanting satin expression to stay how it was currently and those who wanted it to be brighter.
For this update, I rebuilt how the satin intensity is calculated to make a much smoother and more consistent expression level between different bases. Some fantasy genes are impossible to calculate for because the way they alter colors is based on the seed and not genetic, but aside from those everything should be correct now.
In addition, because a good chunk of the game population wanted brighter sabino, I added some variation to it via the image seed. Satin now comes the prior expression level, a half step brighter, and a full step brighter. You can get a new seed to adjust how much satin shows.
Here are the 3 levels of satin you can get in the game now.
____
The sabino genes have been in our game for over 15 years and are very outdated. They go back to a time when sabino was expected to have many named variations instead of the current white series system. These were also added back when the full expression extent of these genes was not well understood. They also needed to be replaced because they are not compatible with the 4 leg update we put out in December. Both sabino 1 and sabino 2 have been updated to be fully dynamic and have expression more in line with how we now understand these genes to express.
Sabino 2 has been renamed w15 and is based on real-life w15 from the Khartoon Klassic line of Arabian horses. Like sabino, w15 is a lower expression level kit mutation that is nearly white when homozygous. This makes it a very similar gene to the sb2 we had before.
It is important to note that when these genes were added originally to the game it was not fully understood what was happening at the genetic level and homozygous horses had less white than they should have. The new expression is much more accurate, but hom kit mutation horses are VERY white and may not be what players are going for. If your hom. sabino line isn't going to work for you now please drop me a PM. I will help you out.
I have some work still to do integrating our other white genes with this new system. Homozygoes expression, and sabino/w15 combined with other KIT gene expressions are going to be seeing adjustments in the future as I get all these different genes working on the same system.
All this work with sabino is laying the groundwork to have the full complement of known W series genes so I hope folks are looking forward to that.
Here is how sabino 1 at max white factor is looking these days
And here is a w15 example at max white factor
W15 has less ticking and less broken-up markings with slightly lower expression levels. Sabino gets more ticking with higher expression levelsNeed to contact me? Read this first. Will W15 still be the sabino club, or will it get lumped in with white spotted?
-
Good question! I had not considered that. Right now the rules are set up so that it has to have sabino in the name. We can brainstorm ideas on how to handle it. The white spotted club is twice the size of the sabino club and I don't think we want to shift all these w15 horses over there.Need to contact me? Read this first. As of now it looks like W15 is still saying sabino in the color name, and they are still showing up on the sabino boards… that may be different for new creates though? Personally I hope they get to remain in the sabino club. My upcoming pony project was planned to have SB2/W15.

I have not changed the color name so an easy solution might be for me to just not change the naming right now. Then they can stay in the club. It is a sabino like mutation even if it is officially a W series.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. Is this a change that "refresh all" will take care of, or do i need to regen all my sabinos? (I have a lot of sabinos :)) I don't mind either method though)
-
Woo, I am very happy with being able to reroll to get brighter satin expression. That was a really good solution! I also looove the W15 expression, it's absolutely beautiful!ID 108Thanked by 1Ammit

This solution to satin is brilliant!
-
So what about Sabino 1 will it have a name change and upgrade too?She/her my user # is 59035

I, too, am absolutely thrilled with the satin solution!
Thank you, Ammit! -
Been a ton of questions here and on discord so giving a block answer.
As far as I am aware sabino and all genes in the W series go all white when homozygous. The exception to this is W20 which depends on how strong the other mutation it combines with is. I understand that members don't want these genes to express all white. I am in that camp with you but I have limited resources. If members can scour the internet for tested with two W(or sabino) mutations that don't express as all-white I would love to see them for references. As of right now, to my knowledge, they should be all or nearly all white.
Roan and tobiano are outside of KIT proper and in the regulatory regions and don't go all white with other kit mutations.
KIT M is not based on a documented gene so I am happy to leave that one out of the W series so it won't go all white with W/sabino genes.
Someone on discord ask if Belton would reduce the white amounts. It does not at this time but I think that is reasonable.
ETA: There are a bunch of later W series mutations we don't have in the game yet. Those ones should not go all white when homozygous. I can prioritize those over the founder ones so people have low white KIT options. This update will allow to get those in when it was impossible to add new KIT mutations before.Need to contact me? I’m curious, does real life W15 have lethal white factor?
-
All KIT mutations are lethal if the resulting pigment is too broken. W15 is not homozygotes lethal with its self. I have zero doubt it is with louder KIT mutations. The more white you see on a het KIT mutation the more lethal you should expect it to be. w15 is louder than w20 so more lethal than it, but less loud than w10 so less lethal than that.Need to contact me? What gene causes the blagdon sabino like markings in Clydes, vanners, and shires? It doesn’t seem to have a maximum white presentation when homozygous.
-
I don't know if it has been mapped yet. Someone else might know.
ETA: From minimal research blagdon appears to be a phenotype, not a specific gene. Some test as sabino, some test as splash, some test as nothing known. So I would say it is probably not a specific gene at all.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. Did I really read the phrase low white kit options? I knew you were trying to get me excited about this update, and you just won.45120Thanked by 1Ammit

Reminder if the sabino update is not working for your lines send me a PM. I can switch your homozygous horses over to a different gene combo. I can only help those who reach out and ask for help.
I have already helped a bunch of members switch to a different gene combo.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.
