Rank Specials
-
Are people just not as interested in buying Rank Specials anymore? Even advertising them and nothing. They're priced almost 10k below their average value according to the catalog. Personally I'm trying to collect one of each available Rank Special and sell any extras, but it just doesn't seem to be working
-
Honestly it just depends. Some rank specials are much more sought after than others. I had Good China’s and Bone Fire’s up for 7500 HBs for over a week, didn’t move. I finally just tossed them in auction.
-
Being a rank special doesn't automatically make a horse valuable or desirable. Certain ones, like New Coke seem to have a pretty consistent desirability, otherwise demand tends to fluctuate quite a bit. A horse can go for a lot one week and be a tough sell the next. If your horses aren't selling then there likely isn't the demand or they are priced too high for the current market.
Age and ability to be GMTed are also factors that can affect price and demand.Thanked by 1Minute -
@Minute, there's posts for them in the for sale and auction forum.
@HighstormFarm I have 1 mare who is 4yo and unbred, perfectly GMTable. The other 2 have been bred this season. They're 2 Champagne Fizzys and a Pieces of Eight. I'm trying to sort through and get rid of some more, but a lot of them are making up my high point show horses. -
I've found this too over the last couple months. I've started keeping mine as show stock, or using them in giveaways.
I do think the market often takes a down turn after December and June - Everyone got new RSs through June celebration, some people got loaded up in GE, others are trying to recoup hbs.

@Poppidoll thats where I'm at, trying to recoup my hbs. I had been away for while and during the last 2 weeks of June foolishly spent 5mil hbs creating horses to try and rebuild what I once had. I'm broke broke now XD
-
@TomCat if some are pointed you will make more in the long run just altering and putting them in your show herd. People usually like young unbred horses so they have time to save up to GMT them. RS that you pop up the daily HH rotation don't tend to sell for a lot because they are often fairly common. Ones that only show up on special occasions are often more desirable because there are fewer in the game. What genes they have is also a factor, some genes and colors are more desirable that others. If you plan on trying to make money by flipping horses you will have to keep a close eye on the market.
Now is a good time to scan the auctions for high PT foals people are auctioning to make room. They will help build a foundation to a good show herd that will provide steady income in the future.
-
@Poppidoll I tried that and didn't even make back a quarter of anything, whether they had points or not, it kinda sucked
@HighstormFarm so would altering all of my horses with say, above 200 points, help towards a better show herd and daily bonus etc? I'm not looking to buy any auction horses because I don't think you can really get that far on 211hbs XD -
@TomCat Really? But you should get your create price back from them all via the auction bidder? Like a refund, essentially.
Gelding / spaying won't directly impact your daily bonus immediately, just in future. Spayed / gelded horses tend to be able to train longer than intact horses.

Gelding/Spaying makes a horse train better which means they will do better in shows and earn more points. The number of points your account holds is what your daily bonus is based on. The more points you have the bigger your daily bonus is.
Any pointed horses you don't want to breed I would alter and put in your show herd. When they hit 10 you can put them in the auction and they game will bid on them for their daily payout amount. Rule of thumb is to auction any 10y/o that doesn't have at least 500 points. -
@HighstormFarm that's actually the most sense I've been able to make of it. I've read other people's descriptions of what to do and it's confused me, but it makes a bit more sense now. Just sucks having to wait so many months to be able to cull any and get any sort of sustainable buyback from them. I had originally created so many mares to breed to build my lines back up to where they were before my break, but I screwed up and got too happy with the 2500 hb reroll last month, so it's my own fault, but now I'm paying for it.
-
Building up a show herd takes time and patience. Focusing on building up a solid show herd is worth it in the long run since your daily payout is what will fund everything else.
I started off with making as many Exceptional Show Horse creates as I could find and buying pointed horses and horses with higher pt scores. Each season I would look through all my 10 year olds and sell those who didn't have at least 500 points and replace them. Now I don't do it as often, mostly when I need space.
Boostraping is also a good way to build up your show herd quickly. -
@HighstormFarm I believe I'm dabbling a little in bootstrapping, not sure lol but I've got a lot of pointed mares that I altered a little bit ago so we'll see if it makes a difference in the long run. I'm just a person of short patience, which is why I believe I took a break last time. I think I was waiting on foals to age up and stopped playing and it ended up being a year or longer break with me only logging in to take foals out of my pasture. I left the same stud in the pasture with my mares for like 6 months straight so most of my lined horses are all from the same stud...oops. I'll probably end up "inbreeding" or linebreeding to get the genes and stats I want.
-
Bootstrapping is when you take a high quality horse, often a ** or *** stallion and breed it to lower quality mares. You end up with higher quality horses faster than you would with traditional even breeding, C x Yellow, B x Red, ect...
