Does satin absolutely have to change? I really love the way it looks as it is.

I am aware that satin is pretty popular and any changes would need to be handled sensitively. I am a few months out from it and there will for sure be a detailed discussion about it at that time.

I'm on the opposite side of satin from most players. If it was like the metallic shine of Akhal-Teke, I'd absolutely love it. It's currently too unrealistic for my taste. Perhaps, in the future, there could be a fantasy allele of satin that is the current iridescent one, for those that love that look?

I just made a wild bay stallion to add more of that to my herd, so I'm super curious how that's going to change.

A reminder that I am still working on these in the background. We are going to have a very large single update to get things working for the 4 legs update, then we will roll out updates to make genes fully dynamic one by one.

Expect to start seeing update posts about these soon.

Im excited to see how it impacts my lines. My newest line has several of the mentioned genes, so I’m sure there will be a lot of change for that one! It’s going to be very cool. Thanks Ammit!

As someone who has a lot of satin, I think it's looking good!
I'm looking forward to the changes and I'm glad the name of the game is one of those changes (I was always forgetting what it was called before!)

So based on feedback from all 3 servers and Discord we made a few tweaks today. The same feel just cleaned up the shine some. Not posting on lots of bases yet, just giving an idea for how it looks on different BCs.







I want to make a point of sharing how it looks on a national horse. Our national BCs are pretty flat so the shine on them reads a bit off. The nationals along with several of our original BCs are still in the works to get an update on the highlighting and shading. I am sharing this so you know what the plan is. I don't know if the satin update or the shading update for the nationals will be out first

They look like they are made out of chocolate :) I like how it's looking. I am interested to see how it will look on light colored horses as this is where the current Satin doesn't read well.

Ooh I’m so happy you cleaned it up a bit, I was going to mention this as well. They were just a touch too harsh looking- They look great now. I wonder if it’s possible to make them just a tad more transparent, so the coat color shows a little more? Some of the shine is a little too white looking, while the examples I’ve seen of satin in tekes shows more of the coat color.
I’m with Firebrand, curious as to what it’ll look like on light horses. Also horses with body markings. (Of course this is just me rambling and not asking for you to do labor right now) I think these will be difficult to show properly- especially cream horses.

Doing stuff like that tends to be a bad idea because it leads to very frustrated players. Some players have thousands of satin horses and what you are suggesting is to tell these players to "pay more money for something you already have, to replace the genetics on thousands of horses in your barn, and turn them all fantasy." It would go over like a lead balloon.

I have been through transitions like this before, like when we went from the old unrealistic metallic pearl to the more accurate version we have now. It's best just to give people a clean break so they can move on with their lives instead of having a constant reminder. People let go of how things used to be quickly when you give them a fair chance to do so. In the same way no one cares how pearl used to look now, no one will care how satin used to look in a few months.

I don't use the friesian BC, so my feedback doesn't need to mean anything, but I'd like to see the mane be tweaked still. It's always looked like the horse version of a bowl cut to me. :-B

The shading and highlights look so much better!

We have things a bit more nailed down now. So I can give a general update. In the next week or so we will roll out a very large update that will allow horses to generate all 4 of their legs independently from one another. The generator now really only creates two legs. After the update each leg will have have it's own generation and sampling.

Major things this update will include in addition to those 4 legs:
-Wild bay complete and total overhaul
-Switch over to new satin art
-Tweaks to cream generation.
-Nexus and Axium will no longer cancel each other out.
-The lowest level expression of roan will have more white hairs than before.
-Some pinto horses had overly blue eyes, this will be made more realistic.

It will also include the hundreds of small changes needed to make all the different four-leg generation work. Most of those you won't really see changes on. For example, Dun is still exactly the same; it just has a bit more leg going on.


Once this changeover occurs every horse will old generation will have broken far side leg markings on even simple things like bay. So we will be adding logic in the game that says if your horse is flagged to refresh its image and that image is older then the launch date of the 4 leg update, do a full regeneration of the image instead. This will mean the shape of your markings will change. There is no real way around that so if you have any horses with extra special markings be sure and safe those images asap.


After this update goes out I fully expect there to be a fair number of special cases that need adjustment. I will do my best to test things thoroughly but there is no way I can catch every possible combination. After this large update expect a bunch of smaller ones to come out in short succession.

This has very much been an "If you give a mouse a cookie" update

In order to fix agouti promoter, I had to rework how bay/brown calculated and because I had to rework bay/brown I had to redo how sooty expressed, and because I had to redo how sooty expressed... You get the picture.

It's been a struggle to keep the changes has similar to the old art as possible while still fixing the issues that need fixing. Here are some progress photos

I rebalanced Palomino this morning. The tone is more representative of real-life palominos now and I added in a bit of leg lightening.

I am not making specific updates to silver at this time but the update impacts all shades of red and bay horses. So silver bays will be impacted.
