What are your game play quirks?
  • One of mine is that I like to keep my primary barn near-empty. I also like to have one empty barn per breeding line.

My anxiety skyrockets when I can't maintain those, but it has potential to get really expensive so I need to get over it, soon! :))

What are your random quirks that affect how you play?

  • I'm not sure it's a quirk but I like to sort all my horses into barns by generations instead of by line or project like I see a lot of people do.

  • I think most players keep an empty primary barn. You need a landing zone. :)

  • A weird thing I do (despite my collecting of experf black horses) is that I like to use wet n wild RS mares for embryo implantation. There is no reason for it because recipient mares don’t do anything for the embryo, but I do :)) When I run out I’ll use others but be annoyed about it :))

  • My quirk is I don't like patn1 in a horse, even if it's solid colored, and am always culling them out of the herd.

  • All of the things lol. I don't like horses in my primary, I prefer any RS as Recip mares, and I don't like grey or tobiano horses in the game or real life.

  • When I see a gene string like this, I want to see how long I can make it in 4 generations. Dilutes, darkening genes, fantasy... Every thing. I want 5 lines on the horse's page without being chimera.

  • Did you post the wrong horse?

  • I also don't care much for grey.
If I think there is a remote chance I'll want to breed something I won't geld until they turn two so I can look at them as adults.
I like opening all my 2 year old pages to see them older. As my barns grow I may not have the time for this quirk.
  • I feel like I have many quirks, and I suddenly can't think of any of them! I know I keep far too many intact horses because what if... and then I never use them. For a while, even with thousands of mares, I was insistent on covering every single one. It felt like some kind of waste not to use them.
  • @whywishesarehorses. i gave up on that notion of "not wasting" any mare about 2 months ago on Bluegrass. Each foal i make is another decision. and when you breed a whole bunch of horses, you have enough keepers that the situation becomes anxiety provoking fast.

  • I keep everything. I can't bring myself to send them to auction because I'll feel bad. I buy old horses. The older, the better. Again because I feel bad for them. And if I happen to be browsing the auction and I see someone's time is almost out with no bid (other than the h&j auction bidder) I'll bid on it, because, you guessed it, I feel sorry for it.
  • @duven I still open all my intact horses every season to refresh them (for grays) and regen them (for appaloosas). Every. Single. One. Even the recip mares. Just in case(tm).
  • My quirk: I absolutely refuse to organize my barns and sort everything by using the search function.

I also have way too many intact horses. I kind of miss the sba spaying all the at-cap level because I didn’t know they were cap. Now that I know they’re cap I don’t want to alter them ^_^ it’s funny how it makes a difference to me. It shouldn’t.
  • I too am a real life grey hater :)) I don’t mind them as much in game though. I alter almost nothing because I go “oh no but what if I only have one foal from this mare or something and I can’t continue her genetics:(“ so I have too many *gold and blue mares cause it makes me sad. My goal is to bring those ones up to cap quality but oh boy is that a project of all projects.
One of my newest things is making my own lines for all the color boards I compete in- I have lots of nice stock, I have decided to start all of my own to compete with instead. Little bit redundant :)) but I’m having fun
I rarely geld or spay. I like pulling at least a couple of straws or eggs from all the horses ready to age out cause I’m sentimental so I don’t do it

  • @silverborn, why Regen the apps? The possibility they look different? I don't even want to think of that possibility! :O

I try to organize my barns. One reason I like this game is management of resources. However @beyondoblivion, I love that energy! I do that for fut breeding.
  • @duven if you refresh them, the blanket/white butt will expand but varnishing won't progress. If you regenerate them, the blanket will expand and the varnishing will progress.

To see a comparison, find an Evergreen Boughs create and regenerate it. They varnish super slowly, so it won't make much change, maybe just some speckling.

Then find a totally random appy that you've had a few years and regenerate that one. If it's not slow varnish like an evergreen, it'll be a much more noticeable difference.
  • @silverborn, I had no idea. I'll go check that out. Thanks for sharing!
  • Empty primary barn yup, I've gotten looser with greys since the gradual changes to their coats, but I despise pearls and cremellos in my barns. Also I try to never breed mares to their fathers or colts to their mothers. Full brothers and sisters I'll try to separate, unless I have specific breeding goals. I'll sell perfectly good horses that are products of these if I accidentally breed them too.
  • I generally won't breed my pastures, any of them, on an account until every mare in every pasture has full bonus... and then I (usually) breed all of the pastures on that account, and switch out whatever mares. Sorting babies is a whole separate thing, generally undertaken a week or two later, preferably after all my accounts've been bred.
Maybe it's not an unusual approach, but it wasn't how I did it at first!

  • I find it interesting how many people hate greys! I have some greys in almost all of my lines, haha (also lots with grey reduction). I love watching them change as they grow up... My last RL horse was grey, so maybe I have a sentimental attachment.

@Haltanny I sort by line and generation. Sorting by generation only I wouldn't have considered, I'm going to browse your barns now to see how that works. :)

  • @Poppidoll I have all my fillies grouped by generations up until I move them to pastures. My pastures are sorted by generation and line. I feel like if I mixed all generations of one line all in one barn, I would get them in the wrong pastures at some point. This way I can open my 2nd gen barn in search, narrow by those with the mushroom gene and just get all the 2nd gen mushrooms (Kedu line) in one clock, basically.

  • I have lots of quirks lol!! I don't even know which ones are normal and which ones aren't though haha!! I love my even pedigrees, and I like breeding same eras together, long before the futurities were a thing. I sort everything by era, and name them all for their generations and era. I used to have my breeding pastures so I could move them in there to breed to the stallion of my choice, from their living pasture, which I can't do since the limits on pastures, so it's taken me many many seasons to slowly start breeding much in my pastures again, as I change how I breed and sort them
