Fun things ahead! Change log player discussion
-
Check out the change log- Ammit and team has been busy!
One of the shifts I’m most interested in, is the swap from GMTs to IVs for maxing. Ammit’s reasoning in the change log makes perfect sense, and I’m excited to see that gap between the lower ribbon levels and the upper close a bit. It will also be cool to see what barns end up on the leaderboards- I’m hoping we see some names we haven’t seen before!
I am absolutely someone who uses my GMTs to max out my horses and put them back into my program, so it will be a shift of gears for me. I’ll definitely struggle a little with this change but it will be such a good one for the game! If you haven’t yet, now is the time to really start buckling down and working on your show barns- those hb numbers are going to be more important than ever for those of us up in the leaderboards!
Another thing I think we will see due to this change is way more lines coming out! GMTs being used only for gene edits instead of maxing means a lot of us will have to focus more on creating foundation horses- I expect to see some really cool ponies come out of this. I’ve been starting lines lately- so this gives me even more of an excuse to make more :)) I suspect this will be fantastic for the community and pony diversity
I want to hear what you’re most excited about with this change!Continuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

I was glad to see this - The leaderboards have been filled with boosted clones for a while now which made it reeaallyyy hard to compete, even just for futurity. It honestly made me feel like boosting was cheating and kept me from doing it with all but 1 of my horses (who is a foundy, boosting just brought him to A papered so he could be used in my gen 2 without bringing my **Gold mares down too much). I might be more open to it now as it feels more evenly accessible, which is an interesting mindset shift.
I bought 300 pointed creates with high show scores today, so I'm definitely in the same headspace as you regarding boosting my show herd, haha.

I think you’re confused- boosting will still happen. Maxing out will just be IVs now instead of GMTs so us who are on the top of the boards can’t use our win GMTs to max.
Boosting and cloning isn’t cheating, it an introduced game mechanic. There are plenty of boards that you can’t boost to be on- era boards for instance, and futurity boards other than era 0. Era 0 is the only era board boosted and cloned horses really compete on, since the babies have to be the same era to count. If you want to compete without boosting, I suggest doing eras other than 0! Boosting is done with IVsContinuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

I don’t mind the change, I don’t think much will change for the bigger established barns because it shouldn’t be a problem for those that have a large show base to make the switch. The only difference for me is that I won’t have anything to spend my GMTs on since I’m not into heavily modded foundations anymore after I moved to bootstrapping.
I think now the gap may instead be in the bigger barns that can afford to do the 50 ivs and double boost compared to smaller barns that can’t as readily spend that much.
But I’m sure there will be significantly less maxed out horses entering the leaderboards, which might make it easier for smaller barns to get on the boards in that sense.ID# 45123 -
Big barns have always been able to afford more than small barns. Just now they have to pay the same amount as the small barns and not get maxing for effectively free.
Evens the playing field but does not punish the big barns. They will just have to focus their efforts a bit more.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

@VenemousGiant I said I would consider boosting more in future with the present changes, so I understand it will still happen. If bigger barns can't boost for free anymore via won GMTs, it makes boosting more evenly accessible, as I said.
I find boosting makes futurity hard to compete on because people want to breed to boosted horses more than unboosted horses. It still creates an unfair advantage for long-standing, wealthy players who are winning GMTs every month to go towards free boosting. (Even my boosted guy is an example of this, though a non-controlled one, he has around 5x more futurity babies than my other futurity stallions, with equal marketing.)
As far as I know boosted horse's foals are still the same Era as them, which would still put them on Era boards outside of Era 0? My boosted guy is Era 12, and all of his foals are also Era 12.
I didn't say boosting and cloning is cheating, I said to me it has felt like cheating because it puts less-established players at a tremendous disadvantage. It's something I've been apprehensive to participate in in the past, for that reason. That's just my feeling on it
My point was simply that I'm excited for the changes and think they were positive. I hope they create a more equal playing field, and that the GMTs won go on to create some new gene combos that will inspire :)

That does make sense Ammit, so I understand why the change is being implemented. It definitely sounds like it will even the playing field more.
@Poppidoll what VG was saying is that the new change doesn’t affect boosting itself, it affects maxing out ability which is different. Boosting was never free for bigger barns and isn’t done with GMTs, so there is no change to that aspect of the game.
When you say you have a boosted era 12, does the era 12 have a 5% breeding boost that’s 200 ivs in the upgrade page, or is he maxed out? Maxing a horse out and boosted a horse above their breeding ability are two separate things. If you give a 5% boost to an era 12 it will make them an era 11.
All the foals will be the same era as the parents but if you want to boost the foal, it will reduce the era of the foal and the foals ability doesn’t count toward the parent’s breeding ability because it’s not the same era. And breeding ability is partly determined through the ability of the offspring. So if you boosted all the offspring and they become different eras, their abilities will not count toward the parents.ID# 45123 -
@Gracie3B, Ah, I see. Boosting and maxing-out sound the same definition-wise (the words) and my TBI brain didn't even realize there was a difference. When VG said boosting is done via IVs, I thought they were just reiterating the change.
It's like how 2x boosted and double boosted mean different things, lol. (From what I've seen in the breeding forum threads.)
I was referring to boosting / maxing out the parents only, not the foals in regards to futurity, but I get what you're saying.

Personally the only change I will see is that I won’t have anything to spend gmts on, so it’s now just a wasted currency for me. Even a completely decked out horse only costs a couple hundred gmts. And I’ve become more minimal with my era horses as time has gone on. And as my eras are getting smaller now since the changes, I need gmts less and less.
The stallion straws are amazing! The mare eggs are gonna be a little bit of a hindrance because I pull so many every month and now have to go to their pages. Luckily I only have -13 double boosted mares on my second account to pull since 9/10 just aged out. It’ll probably even out time wise since it took around -10 minutes each stallion before to pull straws. (Not a complaint, just me thinking how it will affect me personally) I still do the old open every horses page to transition them into pasture though, so my computer is used to screeching through 25 screens at a time. I’ll just be using search now for my mares to pull eggs.
Overall, I appreciate all the changes and I’m excited to see what else is in store for us. I’m always ready/excited for new things to happen and to adapt my play style to them. -
The change from GMTs to IVs for boosting won't affect me too much. But hopefully it'll make MOA more accessible for smaller barns. I only max out a few horses each month, the ones I really hate to see altered (mostly lined Chimeras). Hopefully with these changes we'll see some new names on the leaderboard soon!

For those players who have more GMTs than they know what to spend them on I bet you could really make the day of some smaller barns by making and giving away some fancy foundations. :) If you can't spend it might as well share it!Need to contact me? @Poppidoll Boosting doesn't really have a big affect on the futurity other than dropping a stallion down 1 era. Futurity standings are based on the number of points a stallion's top 10 foals earn. What matters most is if foal owners consistently show a stallion's foals, even foundation stallions can do well in a futurity.
I just check the top futurity stallion for each era and only the era 0 stallion is boosted, the rest are not boosted.Thanked by 1Ammit -
I used to do a lot of give always with gmts, but I’ve stepped away from the community side quite a bit. I no longer feel comfortable teaching/helping so I just leave people to float/sink on their own. I had quite a bit of fun with random gifting last December. Here’s a hint for people that like fancy gifts- If you’re in the lower ranks of the gift exchange and you put exactly what you want a lot of times I’ll pop one over for you. ^_^ I love creating fancy foundations and don’t really use them anymore except for a season. I tend to create horses with people that list specific genes/combos they’re looking for.
I pulled around 15 mares this morning on my alt and it wasn’t terrible. The pages are loading pretty quick with all the new updates. :) -
I pulled 32 this morning and it worked fine but I am not on mobile. Even though I had to wait for page loads, that was faster than finding the names on the list. I'll be doing more testing as the season goes on.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. I will absolutely be making foundies and giving them away to folks if I’ve got some left over from my own projects, that’s a great idea Ammit! I love the community aspect and I’m always reaching out to smaller barns with advice and pony giveaways, and this is a great way to get involved and make friends. I appreciate so much how you’ve been encouraging folks to interact more because the community aspect of the game is one of the best parts. The introduction of futurities and the gift exchanges have made me some extremely fantastic, close friends. Now I want to go plan some fancy foundie surprises muhahaha! >:)Continuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

I’ll also add that I love the straws and egg pulling being on the pages- I have many mares to pull from and it’s so much easier than scrolling through and trying to find them all :x It makes good use of my 9848384882848384838473 hunt and jump tabs I always have open haha! :))
Adding as well: I’m on mobile, it works great! So much easier than the advanced breeding labContinuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

@HighStormFarm I've been corrected on boosting, double boosting / cloning and maxing not being the same thing, therefore my wording was incorrect. Thank you.

Would it be possible to have egg and straw pulling in the lab like it was and on the horse page for people who want it there? The way my horses are named and with my hormone induced amnesia (don't get perimenopause, ladies) I can figure out what horses I need to pull eggs from by looking at the list but if I have to go to each individual barn to look at them all separately it's going to be a ton of work and very confusing for me. Not only that but I'm going to really struggle to remember what stallion I need to go get straws from and how many I need. I absolutely will not know why I opened the stallion's page once I get there, so having everything in one place is more convenient and usable for me personally. I'm also using mobile and I never found egg and straw pulling difficult. Implanting embryos was always hard though.

My 2 cents on the straws/eggs: I would reeaally love it if we could have it in the lab too. It takes me alot longer to go to each page. I name my pull mares so that they are always on top of the list, so pulling eggs was literally seconds of just clicking the same place before. And with straws I have to go to each page, while before I just checked the list to see which of my boys need to be collected from. Now I have to either look through my whole list of straws, or go to each page just to see if I need to pull more straws from my special boys. Both eggs and straws are a whole lot more clicking than before.ID 108Thanked by 1FollysFantasies

Thanks for the feedback. I would not be surprised if we ended up with a centralized pull location as well. This is a transitional period.

Can I suggest, if you add the stallion straw page back, that it isn’t the first page on the list? It’s so laggy for me. ^_^ I would love to keep a mare pull page though since I have them all sorted and I pull the t4s every season.
I do enjoy pulling mares from the pages though. The statics would be easier to pull from a list, but the eras change so quick that it’s easier from their pages. -

A centralized pull location would be cool as well. However I really am enjoying how much less clutter there is in the breeding page today with breeding season open. It’s so much easier for me to pull my mares from their own page and feels so much less of a chore. I’m really having fun! I thought it would be a weird change to get used to but it really is working well for me, especially on mobile where it can be a little difficult sometimes. Ok Ammit, I just tried searching by name and it could potentially work but I'm having trouble because I keep a lot of intact mares as surrogates. Entering # in the name field and selecting "not like" doesn't seem to work. Is there a way to filter out unnamed horses/horses who just have their ID # as a name that I'm not seeing?
-
I put z in front of the name of all my surrogates because that moves them to the top of the embryo transfer recipient list. You can use the bulk naming feature to add that to all your transfer mares. Just tag them with something you can filter out. Or search by what ever way you have your mares tagged for pulling.Need to contact me? Read this first. Great idea with the 'z'!
I start my surrogate names with ISH for intact show horse. -

I actually had just put Z on most of them last month but missed some. I'll have to finish that because it's also makes implantation much easier. For what it's worth I didn't have as much trouble with maes yesterday as I expected and I kept multiple tabs open to pull straws and it worked fairly well (which I normally try to avoid on mobile).Thanked by 1Ammit
