Bad cross?

I bred 2 Exceptional Producers to eachother, both passed Breeding Advice but the foal did not. Why would this happen?

There is a random factor to breeding. So even two exceptional horses will not always produce a passing foals, but it can also go the other way and they can produce a foal that is better than they are.Thanked by 1ValleyStables

Highstorm is exactly right! There is a huge random component to breeding. The foal is compared to both parents in BA and SBA. In foundations you will get more horses that pass because the parents are similar in ability. But it will still be less than 50% that pass. In my 4G pasture for example I breed probably 200 horses, and only get maybe 5 foals that pass SBA a year, just because Im bad at keeping the parents a similar quality. So one might be the same quality as one parent, but significantly lower than the other parent
Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.
