Kit Promoter
-
I am very interested in heavily using KP in my lines once I start my breeding program, but even after searching through all the info in the genetics guide and Wiki, I still have a few questions:
What does KP2 do that is different than standard KP?
Does KP have to be homozygous (KP/KP or KP/KP2) to show?
Is it possible for KP2 to be homozygous (KP2/KP2)? What does that look like?
I noticed many horses that are hom KP/KP and also have two kit genes, but they do not show the KP roaning pattern. Is there any way to guarantee this to show? Are there specific kit genes that make it more likely to show than others do?
Please post example horses if you can find them!ID 58328 -
KP2 has a different effect than KP - KP does sort of "foggy" patches, while KP2 gives funky edges to whatever white is there (which, if a horse is KP/KP2, includes funky edges to the foggy clouds):
KP/KP:

11820597
KP2:
2SK 11791614 SBA
11827187
KP/KP2:
2SK Harbinger Night
11827527
KP needs to be hom (KP/KP or KP/KP2), yes. KP2 does not.
KP2/KP2 can happen and just has the same effect as het KP2 (possibly with stronger expression? I don't remember)

As for the horses that are hom KP and hom kit genes and not showing the KP, that's just a luck of the image generation and/or low white factor. Bumping the white factor up a notch to make sure it's at least minimal or light and getting a new image seed will usually make it show.

One more question: does KP ever show up when heterozygous (-/KP)? Or only when they have two copies?ID 58328
-
Only KP2 will show up when heterozygous, KP has to be homozygous and have 2 kit mutations to show.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses. Liver chestnut, DP mushroom, and rose gray riding horses. Dun cobs with all the patterns. Watercolor, Wrong Warp and ice on mixed body types.

KP is FUN! And, since no thread about KP/KP2 is complete without him, allow me to present Unsolicited!Thanked by 1Duven

@SummertreeFarms is his name Unsolicited because of his rather um, uh, "Unsolicited" marking?
