What plans do you all have for New Year’s?
  • Just want to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and wondering what plans/traditions you all have for New Year’s?

  • I’ll start: I live in Romania, where the tradition is to gather with lots of friends and family. We go see the fireworks in town at midnight, then gather at someone’s home to eat dinner (around 1:00 am), and stay up all night playing board games and watching movies. We all go home around 7:00 am, only to return later for a second night of fun!

  • No way! Buna ziua! I am moving to Sofia this year. We went up to Ruse this summer and could see Romania on the other side of the River but the lines for the border was so long that we decided not to go up to Bucharest. I have been trying to sneak a visit to Romania for years now. Hopefully, once we are settled in Bulgaria next year we will fit a trip in.

  • I got invited to attend a formal sweat lodge ceremony and I’m super excited!
  • I will be on an airplane flying home, I'm most excited about seeing my dog new years day, and my family. This is the first holidays I haven't been home, and I'm missing it a little bit! :)

  • My family cooks Chinese for New Years. Nope we are not Asian, lol. We make dumplings and this year are doing a Chinese roast chicken instead of duck, and will probably have a veggie stir fry as well.
  • @Ammit, no way! I was just in Sofia earlier this year for a conference! Didn't have time to see very much of the city, but seems like a very interesting place.

@BoredCowgirl, that sounds super interesting! Out of curiosity, are you full or part Native American? Or will you be attending as an "outsider"?

@4laska, I'm sorry you weren't able to be home for Christmas. I'm glad you will make it for at least part of New Year's! What kind of dog do you have?

@HighstormFarm, that is a really unique tradition! Sounds like fun!

  • @CarlyManciu - my dad is Spanish/French/Apache/Navajo; He’s enrolled Navajo. My mom is English/Scottish/Cherokee/Cree/Choctaw; she is enrolled Choctaw. My maternal grandpa was never enrolled, so my “blood quantum ” is insufficient for tribal enrollment in any of my ancestral tribes. The lodge I’m attending is a collaboration between some of my Seneca-Cayuga friends, and some of their Shoshone friends that have come down to visit. It’s a women’s only sweat lodge and the focus is drawing back of power for victims of domestic and sexual abuse.
  • @BoredCowgirl, wow, that sounds amazing! I hope you have a great time!
