O Wish I May Wish I Might

I purchased these two foundations with the intention of giving them to my gift exchange giftee. I am receiving the warning about giving away my last copy of the genes when I gift the horses.

For DMSP, I'm pretty sure I purchased the license only versus putting the gene on a horse. I think I did the same thing with Muddy Puddles. For both those genes, I purchased these horses in the first place, so I must have had the license. (I also would have sworn I had other intacts with those genes that I purchased previously, but now I am not certain since I can't find them in the search.) I assumed that the notification was popping up because I didn't have other foundations with the genes, but that I would still keep my licenses because I purchased them separately.

I gifted Mud Slinger (despite the warning, I know) and did in fact lose my copy of Muddy Puddles. I have not yet sent the DMSP horse. They are not super expensive genes, so I'm not terribly upset if I have to buy the muddy puddles license again and just write this off as a stupid tax - I should have checked before sending - but I wanted to confirm if this was the way gene license purchases were supposed to function.
