What's everyone doing for Christmas Eve/Day (for those who celebrate)?
  • My mother died in October and I don't have any other local family, nor many friends. I kind of keep to myself, really. So there's not a lot going on for the holiday at my house. My partner and I are going to make a nice meal tomorrow, but that's about it. So I was kind of wanting to read about what other people are doing, if you want to share. Festive plans? Family traditions? Just laid-back like us?
  • Laidback over here as well. My wife and I moved to the Netherlands two years ago and while it's been great for us in many ways, it's been slow to build up any sort of family/friend network. So we're just calling a couple close friends and getting cozy in bed tonight with some hot cocoa!

  • My son is here just for the day, so we opened gifts this morning. This afternoon we are playing cards, board games, and Minecraft. We are nerds and we love it. Lol

My hubby is making a dinner of prime rib, roasted potatoes, roasted veggies, green bean casserole, and I'm making some stuffing. Then we clean up and watch The Barbie movie.
  • 8 hours of Christmas caroling, three nights in a row! We go out with a huge group from our church and carol all our friends and family throughout the whole city. It’s tiring, but it’s a great time spent together!

    Merry Christmas everyone!

  • @Lurhstaap , I’m sorry to hear about your mom. My dad passed away this year as well. I hope that you can find some healing in the peace and quiet this holiday season.

  • My Mom is in the hospital for the 3rd time in 3 months. I don't have any other family locally either. I'm moving her to a new residence in Jan, and then I'll be moving closer to her shortly after. Today I'm putting on a Harry Potter movie marathon, packing up my bathroom and organizing some stuff to donate throughout the house. I booked movers and ordered chinese to reheat for Christmas dinner tomorrow. I'll have a bath later and pamper myself.

She'll come home with me for a few hours tomorrow, we'll probs go for a walk and watch Elf or Love Actually.

  • We're pretty low key here. We have a big family, but none of us are big on celebrating. We did our tree earlier this month. Last night we did presents and had burgers and fries. Today we'll roast a chicken and do a ham (some like one, some the other) and put on Nativity and Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger in the background.

  • My mom and dad went on a vacation to visit old college friends for the holidays. My sister and brother-in-law are spending their holiday in Estes Park, CO. I am unwelcome at the Christmas dinner that my brother and the redneck side of the family hosts because they “don’t want snowflakes for Christmas”, and I am 100% ok with not being invited to hang out with them because I wouldn’t have shown up even if they had… so I’m hanging out with my cats and my pixel ponies with a fire in the fireplace and a warm cozy blanket, working my way through a pot of coffee and a bottle of Bailey’s Irish cream.
  • Many firsts this holiday season for me. I used to love holidays but without my mom (also passed) its just all kinds of different.

I worked three shifts from Christmas eve through Christmas day.

I got home around 4:30pm. My son was not wanting to participate appropriately lol

I had to work, so when I got home, I took his tablet away, and he was upset about it and took it out on Grandpa. I was going to give all the presents to the neighbor kids (my son even said I could cause he didn't want them), and Grandpa convinced me not to give them away and reschedule unwrapping time. After an hour and a conversation later my son was ready to participate with everyone :)

We were able, the three of us, to go out to an early dinner Christmas Eve between my shifts.

Normal Christmass of the past were very different. Wed all get together (younger brother and his fam too, our parents and my son and me) and all open one gift on Christmas eve. Talk about gratitude, what we believe in, life events of the year, lots of jokes. Following morning we'd gather up again and have an Elf. One person wears a Santa hat and hands out gifts one at a time so everyone can see what everyone got. We'd have our favorite beverages and my father would have a pile of provisions. We take family photos and just be.
