Need More Help Understanding Aspects of Game Due to Mental Handicap
  • I have autism so reading some of the instructions and trying to understand what they mean can be hard for me, so using other words or having things broken down simply really helps! I get confused about what kind of stuff you can &/or can’t do in the game regarding being a basic or upgraded member and just all of the purchase things involving real money. Without spending REAL money & not including achievements for bonus stalls, can I get more barns? If so, how? Also, what are IVS? & then regarding the genes, ik it says something about having to pay for the purple, orange, or glowing genes, but what happens when i purchase a horse with those genes? Can I use them for breeding? Does it just cut off those genes or is it that I can’t just generate those on create a horse on their own? Also, would buying a locked breed at an auction unlock the breed, or will it just be useless? I’ve purchased a few cool horses at auction, and some have the orange/purple/glowing genes, but I haven’t purchased those gene patent thingies. I have NO IDEA what I’m doing & ik I’ll have more questions to post on here
  • Hi, gravy! Welcome!

You can absolutely purchase more barns without real money (although there is that option!). On the left side of the screen under the drop-down menu labelled Upgrade, go into the link called Upgrade for HBs. From this menu you can purchase in-game things using your HBs (which is the game money).

IVs are "investment vouchers". It's sort of like buying a ticket with your money, and then once you've saved enough tickets, you can redeem them for items like barns, gene modification tokens, and other upgrades.

Some genes are limited to those that own the license, so these genes you will not be able to purchase (so you don't have to worry about them accidently ending up in your barns). Someone else may be able to better explain the differences between them, there's some really great folks here that are good with words!

You can purchase and own and breed horses that exhibit the different breed characteristics, but you cannot currently breed for them unless you have purchased that breed with real money or IVs.

I hope some of this helps!

  • So, not all genes that are a fantasy gene require a license. As a tip, only purple genes do. Any genes glowing, or orange, anyone can purchase!

If you need a comprehensive list, then you can always go to "My Stable -> Member Home". Scroll down to the very bottom, and you'll see some titles. One of them should be "XX/61Owned Closed Gene Licenses". If you click on this, it'll bring a drop down menu up with a list of all of the genes requiring a license. Any that you have purchased will have a green background/highlight.

So, what does owning a license mean? It means you can own intact (Stallions/mares) horses with that gene and breed them! Quite simply, that is it. If you don't own the license, you can own spayed mares/geldings with the genes, and can't breed it.

**The only exception to this is at the very bottom, the HMGA2 Height Regulator Gene. This has recently been turned from requiring a license to anyone can breed it**

Which begs the question, how do you get a license? There are two ways. Both require real money, however if you get enough hbs saved up you can pay for someone to buy that gene FOR you.

The first way is through the Random Gene Sales, or RGS. They are called "Random", because on the first that 15th of every month a random selection of genes are chosen to go on sale. You can see the current selection under the "News and Alerts", or by going to "Upgrades -> Buy Rare Genes"

Some of these genes, like Dense Pheomelanin and White 8, can be gmted on in the gmt lab (gmts can be bought with HBs! and gained other ways).

Other genes, like Axiom Nexus and Ice 1 can only be put on a foundation horse through the RGS, despite everyone being able to breed them. These genes, which everyone can breed, are the "orange" genes. They can only be sold privately or auctioned to stop these flashy looking horses being sold at extreme prices to newer people.

And then we reach some of the other genes, like Phantom Autumn and many of the other varieties of Ice. These are the genes that require licenses. Much like the open genes, they are not available in the GMT lab (outside of very very special events).

The other way to get licenses is very similar to this, except you don't get a horse with a shiny gene on it to breed with immediately. You just buy the license straight out. The bonus is that it's much cheaper, and there's usually someone always willing to sell a colt with that gene on it (soooo many colts....)

The breed characteristics, the "fancy new body shapes" work in a very similar way, except it's tied to the breed and breeder of the horse. You can, however, indeed buy these with HBs! It's just very very expensive lol

  • Welcome to the game, Gravy! Fellow autistic here so you're not alone :x

BlueValley and ObsidianKitsune did a great job of explaining it already, but I just wanted to say hi. This game can be pretty confusing sometimes, but the community here is very helpful and always willing to explain things, so don't feel bad for asking as many questions as you need!

There's a lot you can do without having to pay real money, this game is very much not Pay-To-Win like some games are. Even the things that require real money (like licenses) you can still get without real money, by finding someone else on the forum to buy it for you, and you pay them with hbs (in game currency). That's a thing for later, though, when you've got your account more established. Just know that you won't be locked out of things completely. :)

For now, just focus on building your collection of show horses - snipped, or gelded/spayed, horses. Those don't breed, but they do make points at shows. The more points you have total, the more money you make every day. Breeding is fun, but costs money. Showing makes money. More established barns will be getting 100k+ hbs every single day from all their show horses.

The other important thing to know is that this game moves slow. It's okay if you miss a day, or even a week, of logging in. Horses get one year older on the 1st of every real life month, and they don't risk dying until 17 years old, so you don't have to worry about them dying if you haven't logged in for a week or anything like that. ^^

Beyond that, just poke around and have fun! This is a game you will learn much better by doing, and there's not really anything you can do "wrong" that will mess you up, especially when you're first starting, so don't be afraid of experimentation!

    Best of luck!

Open barn policy - no closed lines! I'm always selling straws and eggs from anything I have that catches your eye, don't hesitate to PM me and ask!
  • Another thing I feel should be noted, you do not have to have gene licenses for gelded/spayed horses. If you are not wanting to spend money on licenses, you can still buy fantasy gelding/spayed mares in auction if you want some in your stable to enjoy.
  • Also, a gentle reminder (as in it's not a big deal, and you're new, so you can't know how it all works yet) but please don't use chat speak like 'ik'. :)
