If I recall correctly, you can use them as long as they don't expire before you get it back. I have some gifted straws from stallions that were alive a decade ago, because there was no expiration date. So it would stand to reason they will sit in the freezer, you just can't access them to sell to anyone or use until you get the upgrade back.

They remain in your freezer indefinitely, with a few rules/conditions.

If they were given an expiration, then they will expire whether your upgrade is active or not.
If the horse passes and they have no living offspring, then the straws/eggs are given a 4 year expiration. If that expiration passes, they disappear.

Example, this was the first GMT stud I made. He was made back in 2018. He’s long since passed, and he had many many more offspring than just the 18 that are shown in his family page, but those 18 that are shown still have living offspring so his straws in my freezer have no expiration. As soon as his last living offspring passes, the countdown is on.
