Questions about Chinchilla
-
Do chinchilla horses change color over time, or did I just choose the wrong horse for this project?
**GIFT L2**New Coke 10820731 -
They do not change over time but appaloosas do. What are you trying to make happen?Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

I was going for that pretty overall dark grey chinchilla look... what do I need to add or subtract to get it?
-
You should find an example of the kind of horse you are looking for and post it here and then compare the genetics. :)Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

I played around and achieved something closer to what I was looking for.

Something like this? -
You won't get this look with the dun
-
@DevilsParadise - I removed the Dun and DFP2… why does he look like he has grey or KP? What do I need to do for dapples.
-
BoredCowgirl please post a link to the kind of chinchilla you want. No point in other people trying to read your mind and guess what you like. :)
You can search for Chinchillas to look at tons of examples to find a horse like what you want.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

The dapples like the one @DevilsParadise posted were what I was hoping for.
-
The dapples are random. You'd have to reroll his portrait until you get them. I have silver blacks with and without dapples
-
Oh, I don't know it you can get exactly that look with bays, either.
-
Yeah from doing a search, I don't think you get the dapples on a silver bay chinchilla. The silver blacks get them quite often, though
-
Sorry I'm a bit late and the GMT blowout is pretty much over but I'm an expert dapple maker and wanted to share some info with you. Silver tends to bring out dapples in both black and bay horses so it's a good bet to add it. Dfp2 in my experience diminishes the look of dapples. I added images of a couple of my horses below who have dfp2, chinchilla and dapples but they don't have bay. Nd1 increases the chances of dapples as does dp, sooty and s+.
To get the look of the horse above you want silver black and could add genes like s+ to bring them out more. That horse also has hom satin which changes the quality of the dapples a bit and makes them a bit brighter so if you're looking for something just like that you'll need satin.
It's easy to get dapples on a bay but hard to get them on a chinchilla bay. Here's one of my Mesa horses that kind of has dapples with chinchilla and bay but I don't think this is what you're going for at all.

Your horse is pretty and I think it would look nice as a chinchilla but it wouldn't be anything like the horse shown above. If you decide to try on a different horse feel free to send me a message if you need help and I'd be happy to look at the options with you. I have a lot of dappled chinchillas and would be happy to look at a horse and the GMT options available to help you get what you're looking for. Here are a few of my other dappled chinchillas as examples of how they come out with different genetic combinations.

This is an example of amazing dapples with dfp2 but in my experience that's harder to accomplish.

I ended up taking the chinchilla off of the new Coke pair and going a different direction. This is what I came up with.

One of them will be getting a gender swap after next years show payouts, but I have not decided which yet. -
Those look great, I love them!

They look awesome. I'm glad you got what you wanted :)
