Write a breed description, win that breed characteristic! Ends Tuesday Morning (July 25th)
  • I am running a quick contest to write the descriptions for the new breed characteristics. For each one, I need a roughly 250-character-long blurb about the real-life breed (about 3 sentences). It must be between 200 and 300 characters long. This is strictly enforced and I will toss out anything less than 200 or more than 300 characters.

Please use a Character Counter to confirm your length before posting.
    https://wordcounter.net/character-count

I need a blurb about the Saddlebred, the *Friesian, and the Suffolk Punch.

*Please note that our Fresian is the modern style with a sport horse build, not the baroque version and not the crossbred version. Those would be future BC art types, please make your entries reflect the Modern Friesian.

-To enter simply post your blurb below. You can write for one or multiple of the breeds. You can enter as many times per breed as you want.
-I will only be picking one winner per breed across all three servers. (3 winners total) Winners will be picked Tuesday morning and will receive 5 BC tokens to unlock a new breed characteristic of their choice.

Thanks so much for sharing your creativity and breed knowledge with me.

  • Thanking about it, descriptions that cover what the breeds tend to look like, more than the breed history are probably the most helpful.

  • The Saddlebred is the ultimate performer, from the traditional show ring to multiple sport horse venues. Standing on average from 15.1 - 16.3 hands, the Saddlebred exhibits a natural lofty headset, upright build, expressive face and eyes, and naturally animated movement. They can be any color, including pinto and dilute. Their delightful and kind temperament means they are often seen being driven, ridden, and handled by amateur and junior riders/handlers. As a trotting breed, they exhibit the walk, trot, and canter, and some can also be trained to exhibit the slow gait and rack, both of which are four beat gaits with each foot hitting the ground individually and are defined based on the speed of the movement. Horses that are trained to exhibit these gaits are considered to be five gaited horses. The breed standard for movement should be fluid, animated, and with clear-balanced cadence. The breed was developed from refining crosses of prominent Thoroughbred and Trotting Horse stock being crossed with Morgans, Hackneys, and Canadian Pacing Horses, among others. The breed became recognized in 1891. The breed was prominently featured by the US Army Equestrian Team in Olympic competition up through the 1940’s, and were also instrumental in the development of the National Park System in the American west.
  • @Fgbchorses2 great write up but that won't fit I am afraid.

  • The Modern Friesian is significantly more lean throughout the frame. They have lighter bone and leaner body mass. They tend to be longer in the leg than length of the body giving them an upright rectangle appearance. They stand 16-17 HH and have a long flowing mane and tail with feathery feet.

They can be any color, including pinto. The breed standard for movement should be fluid, animated, and with balanced cadence.
  • The Suffolk Punch is a draft breed known for its muscular, well balanced build, and sturdy frame. They possess a short, arched neck, powerful shoulders, a straight back, broad croup, and short, broad legs with little to no feathering. The Suffolk Punch is a breed that exudes strength and elegance.
  • The modern Friesian is a majestic and powerful breed with a lighter type and warmblood like movements. They have a muscular frame with flowing mane and tail, refined head, and expressive eyes. They often have an upright, rectangular appearance due to being longer in the leg and length of body.
  • The Friesian is easily recognizable for its distinctive appearance with a high-set neck, broad chest and refined head and ears. A luxurious mane, low set tail, and feathering accentuate the breed's powerful and high stepping movement. The modern Friesian is an elegant and versatile companion.
  • A classically elegant breed, the Friesian is marked by it's black coat, luscious mane and tail, and distinctive feathering on its lower legs. Its conformation is similar to a light draft with upright carriage and powerful, animated movement. It is a versatile breed, suitable for riding or driving.
  • The Suffolk Horse is the smallest draft breed; recognized by their chestnut coats. Their build is compact and round with a short, thick neck, and sturdy legs that lack the long feathering of other drafts. It is their round, punchy appearance that led to their nickname, Suffolk Punch.
  • The Suffolk Punch

Oldest of Great Britain’s heavy breeds, the Suffolk Punch has been around since the early 16th century. The breed registry describes and names seven distinct shades of chestnut within the breed. They range between 16.1 and 17.1 HH. They were commonly used in agriculture and logging.
  • The Modern Friesian

The Friesian’s increased popularity in the field of dressage, and a higher demand for riding horses vs. draught type animals, has influenced a shift from the classic baroque to a lighter more sporty body type. Friesians are almost always black, but occasionally rare chestnut specimens do occur.
  • The American Saddlebred

Originating in the 1700’s, the American Saddlebred was developed in the state of Kentucky. Known for it’s snappy leg action, smooth ambling gaits, elegant appearance, and it’s stamina; it has achieved worldwide popularity. They are used for both riding and driving.
  • 24 hours left to enter. Here are my 3 current front-runner entries to help you gauge what I am looking for.

The Saddlebred has an elegant and refined head with a kind eye. They have a long arching neck that slopes into a strong and muscular shoulder. The defined withers transition into the short, strong back with a level croup. Their legs are straight and correct with long, sloping pasterns.

The modern Friesian is a majestic and powerful breed with a lighter type and warmblood-like movements. They have a muscular frame with flowing mane and tail, refined head, and expressive eyes. They often have an upright, rectangular appearance due to being longer in the leg and length of body.

The Suffolk Punch has a powerful, arching neck; well-muscled, sloping shoulders; a short, wide back; and a muscular, broad croup. Legs are short and strong, with broad joints; sound, well-formed hooves; and little or no feathering on the fetlocks. They tend to be shorter but more massively built.

  • The Saddlebred has a well-proportioned and muscular body with a deep chest, strong shoulders, a long, arched neck, and refined straight or slightly concave profile. Their short back, leads to a level croup with high set tail, and long and sloping pasterns give them an animated stride.

  • The modern friesian horse has a lighter build and a more refined silhouette than typical draft types. They have a characteristically long head, and a highly arched neck that leads into a sloped shoulder and a strong back. They are deep chested and have long legs with light to moderate feathering.

  • The saddlebred horse is of a light bone and a finespun shape. They have a long neck and both a high head and tail carriage. They have sloped shoulders and a deep chest, as well as a short, straight back and fine, strong legs with long pasterns.
    ID# 25784
  • The Saddlebred has a lofty headset, expressive face, and naturally animated gaits. They feature an upright build with an elegant neck tying into an open shoulder allowing for high leg action. A short strong back flows to a powerful hind with a flat croup. The tail is naturally flagged in motion.
  • The modern Friesian exemplifies power and grace. A broad head with expressive eyes moves into a muscled neck and upright shoulder then flows into a short broad back and well muscled hindquarters. Leg feathering highlights their extravagant movement, and a thick flowing mane and tail is the norm.
  • The modern Friesian

The Friesian is a large breed horse that is notorious for its long majestic & almost fairytale like mane, and tail. Though large & powerful the Friesian horse does not lack elegance with it’s upright head set, and natural high-stepping trot. Making it a stunning riding & driving horse.
