Dealing with grief of a pet
-
Late last night I lost my beloved French Angora rabbit, Cleopatra. Cleo was the last of my farm animals, since I got extremely sick and can no longer do it. She moved with us to the city, and was absolutely adored. She was the sweetest, sassiest doe, so fun and happy. I was absolutely not functioning last night when I found her. She died with me there. I’ve completely shut down.
I feel so broken having lost her, it feels like the end of everything. Not only having lost my favorite bunny girl, but also having lost the last of my rabbit line. It feels like losing my farm all over again. It’s been only a year since it happened and the wound is ripped back open. I feel like I can’t catch a damn break- two strokes, several genetic diseases, narcolepsy, going blind, the loss of my farm, Cleo’s death… it’s just hit after hit after hit. I’m 28 and I feel like I’ve lived enough tragedy for several lifetimes.
I loved that freaking rabbit so much. I haven’t been this intensely broken over a death since I lost my childhood dog. Usually I can take it in stride because deaths happen when farming and I prepare myself but this… losing Cleo is on another level. Devastated doesn’t cover it. I feel destroyed.
No one around me really seems to understand how much her loss means. I know the people here would so I just wanted to write down my grief.
If anyone has any suggestions for memorial things for her, let me know.Continuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's amazing how much joy smaller animals can bring. Each one has its own personality; each one brings its own special joy to us.
Would donating a book about rabbits, especially less common breeds, to the children's section of a local library be something you might consider as a memorial?
My daughter has concentrated on guinea pigs for quite some time, after having a large, growing family of gerbils in her bedroom for several years. The guinea pigs (one at a time)
live in a 15-gallon aquarium in our dining room, and even my husband, who is not particularly an animal lover, enjoys their personality and presence. The current pig, a tricolor, is named Azalea, but I have nicknamed her Helga von Heidendorf, the robber baroness, because she knows when I'm doing something in the kitchen and begins to squeak for a treat as soon as she hears the refrigerator door open, or the sound of shears cutting a banana off the bunch. Some days, I'm not certain who is training whom. :D

Its rather expensive but you can always look at getting a Cuddle Clone of her :x I raise Mini Lops and hopefully soon Standard Rex. Also, if you have any of her wool, maybe find a really good felting artist who can needle felt something for you. I have made my own "felt" balls with my dogs hair. I made a pair of earrings with a couple smaller balls and I made a large ball that I use as a stress reliever.Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

Thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies. Loosing a pet is so difficult and heartbreaking. Especially when it has ties to such a big part of your life. My house burnt down my sr year in high school.. we lost 10 pets, 4 dogs 3 snakes a tarantula, Dove and Iguana. It was devastating.. one dog and my fish survived because he was outside when my sister left for work…. when the dog that wasn’t in the house passed a few years later.. it was like reopening that grief and the death of that life over again.. a painting , drawing or a tattoo is a nice memorial.

Hugs.
I recently lost our dog. I ordered a canvas online and painted him. Being able to still see his face comforts me.45120 -
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my rabbit Fred several years ago and was more devastated by his loss than basically any of my other pets. Rabbits just have a way of sneaking into your heart.
