Need your feedback on this Suffolk Punch outline
-
Thank the Jenx, we have another one! Let us know what you think about Suffolk Punch. We tried to go for a Percheron originally but decided we needed a proper extra thicc look and the Suffolk Punch was more what we were looking for.
Things of note: The muscle lines are just there as reference notes and will be changing.
ETA: This horse is not standing neutral it is our first horse who is bridled up. Hence the head. The future tack items like harnesses will not look right otherwise. This breed is also shown in a surcingle not with a neutral head posture.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. I find that the hind legs 'parked out' makes the back look longer than it is, in my experience they stand a little more under themselves. The small hooves and the head carriage gives me Friesen vibes
Thanks for all your amazing work, Jenx!

I agree the head carriage is a little unbalanced. I'm used to seeing the thicc horses with their neck in that position, having their head up instead of tucked. It looks like horse is choking themselves from being tucked in so much.
The head shape and overall body proportions are good, just the head should be at a shallower angle, like 30 degrees below horizontal (if you draw a line down the front of the head from forehead to nostril).
Or, keep the head at that angle but put the neck extended forward further, as though horse is about to step out and start pulling a load. That would also work and would be more like the traditional "sporty draft that can do hunters" that the draft concept was founded on originally. -
I would be interested in seeing slightly larger feet

Not enough bone in the legs and needs bigger hooves.
-
Echoing that it definitely needs larger hooves, suffolks tend to have massive ones. I agree also that there needs to be more bone in the leg. The suffolks I knew- I’ve been fortunate to have known a few of this rare breed- are built like absolute brick houses.
I love Jenx’s work a lot, I don’t know if they read the comments here but please pass along my appreciation and gratitude if not! Art takes so much time, practice, and skill and I’m so thankful to have such a talented artist working on new horses for usContinuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

That comment came up on another server but I have not found it to be true that they have larger legs. Here is what I posted over there.
When we looked at the breed that is what they had. They are chonky but not crazy heavy-boned. This seems to be the normal look for the breed.
Compare with this boy who I think is a Sokolski. Way more bone.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

I am wondering if maybe it is the lack of colour that is making the legs look "thin". There's a lot of thickness and muscle you can see in those horses legs, mostly due to the colour changes! Either way, I do love this chonky outline, thank you for not shying away from the "proper extra thicc look"Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

I think that and a lot of people are used to other draft breeds. I also thought the legs did not look big enough and when I actually went back and looked properly at the reference images for this breed that is what they look like. They are kind of like giant fat cobs more so than looking like many other draft breeds. Thankfully this should be the first of MANY breed characteristics to come and if someone wants a heavier bone look they will be coming. <3Need to contact me? Read this first. Thanks, Ammit! Definitely thinking about it as a "draft rep" horse - knowing that there will be heavier options is great!Thanked by 1Ammit

I'd missed this one before but OMG I'm in love. This looks like one of my favorite jumping horses and I can't wait to have a whole line of horses that look like him
