Upgrades are entirely separate to gene licenses.

By apply, are you talking about the Roving Gene Sale? The RGS refreshes every 1st and 15th of the month to a random set of genes. Not all of them require licenses. But if you do buy a gene from the RGS to put on a horse you will also get a license with that. You can also buy a genes license without buying a copy to put on a Foundation horse. It is cheaper, and you don't need to wait for the gene to appear on the RGS.

Once you have a license, you can buy stallions and mares, and breed horses that have that gene. To see what licenses you have you can go to Member home, and scroll down to the very bottom where it should say:
X/61 Owned Closed Gene Licenses,
Where X is the number that you do have. Licenses that you own will be lit up with green and have a number, the others will be grey/white and number is 0.

Looking at your licenses, I can see you own
8 copies of Mushroom
4 of Macchiato/Splash M/SWM
2 Axiom Blue
1 Axiom Green
2 Axiom red
6 Nacre

You can buy intact horses with those genes and breed them from other players. You can buy altered horses (geldings and spayed mares) with any of the other genes for show ponies.

You probably had one of the ice that did not have a license.

As Ammit says. You don't need a license for the ice genes 1, 5, and 8 I think it is? I always forget which ones and have to check the closed license list and count up which ones are missing lol. They're not on public sale, but you can buy them via the auction or chatrooms if you are buying from someone
