Breeding Advice
-
Hey all,
Im fairly new , Ive been trying to breed some ' rarer ' coats , but I've just been wasting my money to get normal appy/frame/splash coats. I don't have enough money to be throwing around trying to get pretty coats so I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to do? Also was wondering what tends to sell these days? Any help appreciated.
Many Thanks :) -
What colors have you you been trying to get? If you make an ISO(in search of) post in sale of what you are looking for and your budget, you'll likely find what you are looking for. :)
Breeding for what the "market" wants is going to be hit and miss. This flavor of the month may be replaced in a month of two by something else. Your best bet is to breed what you like and enjoy. If you need cash building up a solid show herd is your best way to make steady income. -

KP needs 2 copies and a KIT gene to show.
Satin also needs 2 copies to show.
It looks like all of your foals only have 1 copy of each. It takes a few generations to have it show if you aren’t breeding homozygous horses. -
@pestilenttempest
So one copy per parent or two per parent ?
Also , For the onyx license , is the only way you can get it through the shop with real money? Or can you buy a horse with onyx and get the license like that? -
KP needs two copies and two KIT genes to show. KP2 will with one copy, but only on the edges of markings. To get the clouds (and enter the breeders club), you need two KIT genes.
For gene licenses, you need to spend real money, or save up hbs and have someone else buy it for you. You usually have to have 150,000 to 200,000 per $10 though.ID 108Thanked by 1IzaStuds -
This is, of course, referring to what is on the horse. All the genes in this game are split in 2. A horse has a 50/50 chance of giving one or the other to their foal. So if the horse has two copies of satin, the foals are guaranteed to get 1 copy from that parent. However Satin needs 2 copies to show, so if you want the foals to have satin you need to breed to horses with satin. Taking the horse with two copies above and breeding it to a heterozygous (one copy, or het) horse, there is a 50/50 chance the foal will be hom satin, and for a homozygous (two/all copies, or hom) horse, the foal will be satin all of the time.
You also do not need to use BA. If you want to solely breed for colour, you can! You may not get an advancement in papers/breeding quality though. I am going to guess that, since you are trying to get satin and KP/KP2, you are using a bought stud who potentially is a bootstrap stud. This means he was "uneven bred" or for uneven breeding. Even/uneven breeding refers to the arms of the pedigree. If they end at the same point (foundations x foundations, their children x together, and so on and so forth) then the horse is "even bred". There is nothing wrong with uneven breeding, however if you are breeding a bootstrap stud to foundation mares, it is a good guess that the vast majority, if not all, of the foals will fail BA because the stud is just that good, and the mares "average", so that the foals will never get around to the studs breeding quality.
For buying genes, you can go to Upgrades-> Buy Rare Genes. You do not have to put a copy on a horse, which is what the Roving Gene Sale (RGS) is for, you can always just buy a license so that you can buy the horses with the genes from other people. It is cheaper, and you don't have to wait for the gene you want to appear on the RGS!Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
Prices are almost always negotiable.
