I've had a dog in my life since I was 10 years old. Right now I have an 18 year old cat, a 16 year old dachshund, and a 13 year old cat, all in really good health. The plan was that, as they passed away I would start fostering older dogs from the local animal shelter.
I have always prided myself on being pragmatic and a realist about my pets; knowing how many I can manage, and how much energy I have to keep up with them, how much I can afford on vet bills, etc. I have also been basically a dog snob. I showed my dogs in obedience and also finished my late corgis breed championship (so he had 'titles at both ends'. Dogs have their conformation titles in front of their registered names and performance titles after their names, so 'titles at both ends'). I have preferred neutered males over females, etc. SO many criteria I set for myself.
My sister in law volunteers at a shelter in Oklahoma and is always putting up pictures of available dogs, and I've just glanced at them and moved on. Until last Tuesday...when all those criteria went down the tubes!
May I present Riley Rose, my new 6th month old puppy!
My brother and sister in law were fostering her and I fell in love when I saw the pictures. They kindly took the weekend to drive her up to St. Louis from Tulsa (@6 hour drive). She is SO smart, and sweet, and funny (more etc!)

Gorgeous!! Looks like a border cross, she’s absolutely adorable!

She is a cutie! She'll keep you on your toes. :D

Awww she is so cute :)

Wow, what a cutie! Are you planning on showing in obedience with her?
I have a Miniature American Shepherd that I show in Obedience and Rally. She has her RACH in Rally so is officially retired from the Rally ring but we are currently working on her Obedience titles. I show AKC and UKC and she already has her CD and UCD. She is also titled in barn hunt, lure coursing, and trick dog. And, I have a 10 month old Australian Shepherd that will be shown as well. I too have been a bit of a dog snob but worked in rescue for years and have fostered and adopted rescues in the past. They all ended up being great dogs as pets and in dog sports.
Hope Riley Rose brings you years and years of joy!

I would need to get her an ILP number, and while I will probably teach her most of the obedience skills I really am just shooting for a companion dog these days. She's been settling in this past week and it just amazes me how she fits right in!
