Increasing Daily Bonus
-
So, obviously…better show horses and time, but how many show horses do you need to work up to to get to a healthy daily bonus? I’m always keeping an eye on the auction, as well as waiting for my own homebreds to grow up and start earning, but I was curious where your numbers of show horses are, established players with high daily bonuses. I’m pretty happy I broke 10k daily, and want to know where I should aim for to start becoming self sufficient hbs wise. I truly appreciate everyone here and all the help and support!

I know Ammit comment on a post that you should have at least 1k show horses. I am almost there with buying pointed horses, creating exceptional show horses, and my own bootstrap line and foals that don't make the SBA cut.
-
Congrats! Every little goal is worth celebrating!
Once upon a time, I was told to have at least 3 show horses per 1 breeding horse.
I've been playing for almost 6 years. Currently, I have roughly 5900 show horses, from 2 years to 35 years old, and about 1200 breeding horses. Of those breeders, about 200 are great show horses I left intact to act as embryo recipients (who may or may not be bred each season). Another probably 400-ish are girls I haven't gotten around to sorting. I'm on another overhaul and will be spaying quite a few more mares in the next couple months (or I at least plan to, lol).
So, I'm sitting above the 3:1 ratio I strive for. My daily bonus is about 385k right now, but I had broken 400k last month. For a while, I tried to purchase a new barn every season, or every other season, to keep increasing the number of show ponies I could have. I noticed that for many rollovers, I was losing a lot of points from my older ponies that passed on, and I didn't have a lot of young up and comers to replace them. I finally decided to get into bootstrapping about a year and a half ago, because the high PT was really alluring to me. I do feel that my show herd has benefitted from adding them, and it's an additional fun challenge to see if I can get my evenly bred lines up to their quality (I'm still really far away from this, lol!).
It really depends on what you decide is a healthy daily bonus! There's no wrong answer.ID# 25784 -
I definitely have more show horses than breeders, and some good bootstrapping studs - I definitely messed up selling some of the spelds because I was/am out of barn space (well some primary barn space but I struggle when things aren’t well organized tbh), so I’ll work towards more barns and keeping almost everything to show for sure.

I’m not established by any means, but in the 4 years of off again on again playing, I’m furthest I’ve ever been. I reached higher daily bonuses (albeit it is only temporary) by buying off the foundation rescue with “total points” as the filter. It’s definitely helping for the meantime while I’m waiting for my own herd to age up. While doing this and constantly look at the sales page whether it’s auction day or not, I also look for highest pt scores, and create only great show horses or exceptionally perfect hh and immediately alter and consistently show them. It’s still slow, but it’s brought me to 20.5 daily so far! Every other time I’ve played I’ve been stuck in the 6/7s daily.
And I will say this last roll over the gamble payed off as I only lost maybe 7 horses (all from the foundation rescue), but I’m at a point where just showing brought me back into the 20k range.
Another thing that helped was, when I was able to, I would buy genes for others and use the hbs I got from it to buy more barns and create//buy more show stock with either high points or pt scores. It doesn’t matter how many stalls either as long as you’re buying, I have multiple 15, 30, 120, and 210, and I have a goal of getting a 1k barn sometime this coming year. I used to think “all or nothing” (either buying a 210 or 1k barn, or no barn at all), but I’ve learned as long as it’s something it’ll always benefit :)
I hope this helps! -
@coppilane I definitely hit up the foundation rescue for pointed horses, last roll over I did great, this one killed me, but it’s definitely worth it to fill the gaps while they grow up for sure.

Definitely makes a huge difference in these slow stages!
-
Now to save up like whoa for more barns!
-
I have around 7,000 altered horses plus around 300 stallions/colts and embryo transfer receipt mares that are shown. My daily is over 510k currently but has been up to 567k. The biggest difference is barn space. The more barn space you have, the more show ponies you can have. I'm going to send you a little gift to help you out with barn space. ;)#28036

Definitely keep an eye on the Foundation rescue horses and the public sales. Every now and again you can find decent show ponies for very cheap. I’m at 17k ish rn, slowly going upward but dang if it doesn’t take ages! I check the sales pretty constantly cause I’m always around. Once I Max out my stallion, I gotta buckle down and make show horses my priority for a bit. Barn space always kills me. You’re smart starting to focus on it a bit now haha, I get too distracted by shiny babiesContinuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

@Haltanny holy cow, thank you so much. I appreciate you so much.

I have been playing since 2015
I have around 10,300 horses total (just under).
Of that total, just under 8,500 are show ponies (this will increase as I go through and do seasonal culling).
I currently make 568k hbs per day in daily show bonus.
I also have been very short on barn space so the last few seasons I haven't been able to save a lot of my pasture foals. However, I always make my high pt bootstrap pastures a priority every season :)Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

I first saw a huge different when I started prioritizing 13+ pt show horses. My second priority is 10-11 pt altered. Everything else gets dumped. I only sort my show horses at 10 and they need 500 points to stay. I never sell off otherwise.
I’ve got 10.6k horses out of pasture, less than 4K altered. This includes several thousand mares I use for embryo transfer, unsorted horses, and tons of show horses I have forgotten to alter. I make over 1 million daily. I was 1.1 million after rollover.
I haven’t been altering my 14+ horses mostly because I’m too lazy and forget to. But several of my all time points are stallions/mares.
I really need to do a HUGE culling because I haven’t been keeping up with my horses the last 6 or so months.Thanked by 1whywishesarehorses -
@pestilenttempest that’s great info and makes good sense. My homebreds are getting higher and higher PT (nothing spectacular yet but getting there) other than some fantasy horses but I think they’ll get there too. I’m working on keeping an eye on the auctions for 13+ show horses, and that’s good to have an idea about x points by x age to keep as I grow.

I currently have 12,697 alters and 3,008 intact and available for breeding, so I'm sitting at 4.22:1.
I do not prioritize PT scores or consistency in my show herd, but generally do not keep any alters under 10.4 PT. I also cull every season for show horses 10 yrs or older with less than 500 points.Folly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free. -
I have almost 5800 horses. 4650 of them are show stock. I make just over 240k a day as of today. I'll be back closer to 250 next week, as rollover hit me hard after a month with no showing.
I've been playing since 2018 and really my whole secret is multiple accounts. I've had between 3 and 5 since I started. There is always money to play somewhere. I keep basic upgrades so showing can be done in a round twice a week, and mostly I buy straws. High PT straws make great show ponies and foundation straws fuel my passion projects. Most of my show stock came out of my mares, even on my littlest account that just broke 4k a day.45120
