Quick Vent, so I don’t bite the heads off anyone at my dog show today
-
I just needed a quick vent where I know people will get it. 2023…you’d better be better. 2022 has definitely had some really high points, with my dogs (I have working and sport border collies and we compete at a fairly high level across the US in multiple sports), but my darn body keeps trying to kill me. We went well into the double digits for surgeries this year (I think we’re in the 100+ range for life, I stopped counting at like 80Thanked by 1BossScorpio

and though I’m a little more stable than many years, I’ve got multiple tubes and lines connected almost 24/7 to keep me alive - which is fine, but every single event, every time I leave the house, it’s “oh you shouldn’t do that, oh you can’t handle your dogs, oh you can’t do high level disc freestyle in a wheelchair, when are you giving up the dogs to do something more appropriate”, like they can’t realize that what I do is how I manage to stay here, and balancing physical health with mental health? It’s just really frustrating to either be told to stop what I love (the doctors already made me give up riding because of my disease progression, and I trained, taught, and competed at a fairly high level in eventing, and are cautious but very supportive of all my dog sports) or being “inspiration pr0n” for just living my life the way it needs to be lived.
I’m really thankful to have found my way back here - these pixel ponies have given me a lot of joy back with “horses” and this community is amazing, and I seriously appreciate being able to make this vent because I can’t make it in “real life” easily because I just get told “well it’s been worse be thankful” - that’s true, but my feelings are still valid darn it lol may 2023 be as good as it can be for everyone, you’re all amazing.Thanked by 1BossScorpio -
I feel for you and I sorry you have to deal with jerks, @FgbcHorses2 . I wish folks would just mind their own business. Only you can decide what works for you and your body, and what you can handle. You and your dogs are so cool. This kind of commenting from other people is so massively ableist- they really want us to just not be people anymore. I can tell from experience as well that not being able to do anything you love is super messed up and you feel like an empty shell. Keep doing what you love, those people can get lost. You’re allowed to exist and be a person with interests and hobbies, even when disabled. You and your dogs are awesome. I'm sorry you deal with such ignorance from other people. My dad and I both have physical disabilities and have dealt firsthand with ignorance, though people haven't been as open with us as they are with you.
They may not have much, but they certainly have the audacity. :-w -
Having only touched on the outer edges of the dog show world (breed and obedience) I have to say that I saw so much back stabbing it was disheartening. I can't imagine what it's like at the higher levels! I did know one guy that did his signal recall with his middle finger held out. Don't know if anyone ever called him on it!

Ambulatory chair user here, emphasis on the “amble.” Keep on being awesome, and if you roll over a few toes along the way, either figuratively or literally… whoops! That seems like a them problem. I’m proud that you don’t let others dictate what you can do. Your pups are fortunate to have such an awesome handler.
May your 2023 be filled with more great days and less surgeries. This community is genuinely the best. Nobody gets rude or snippy when my body falls apart, they’re just supportive and awesome! Thank you for being part of this fantastic corner of the internet.Looking for Appaloosas? Check out my Riata account.
You matter to me!
You are valued, you are important, and you are loved! ❤️ -
Thanks so much guys. There are definitely amazing people there but the negs are always so loud and so sure they’re right, but I guess that’s super true across the board for people. The puppy got another big title yesterday so that was a huge win!

Congratulations on the new Title.. I love border collies. I use to have two but currently have terriers ( Jack Russell, Parson and Australian. Keep doing what makes you happy! Many blessings for you and your furbabies this new year!

You guys are so awesome. We ended the weekend, well, and year, with the baby dog earning 16 titles before her first birthday, which…is honestly a great birthday present to me! Mines next week and let me tell you the closer I get to 40 the less I can believe it. Definitely overdid it this weekend and can’t move now so I’m thankful I can sit back with the pixel ponies and figure out how to manage my herd, get a decent daily bonus and stop being broke

I am so sorry that you had to go through all of this, and congrats on your new title. It must have been horrible giving up horses. I, too love this community, as i have (so far) found zero racisms, s3xist people, ped0s, or anyone else that is either gross, creepy, or just crappy.I hope that in the future you have great fortune and triumphs, and good luck with your pixel ponies!( have never heard anyone use that phrase, but it is so cute)
