Ideas for New Lines?
-
I can't seem to decide on a line I want to stick with. I breed drafts, I've been working on chinchilla, started a platinum line, but getting bored with both. With the gene sale I want to start a new project, but I don't want to put in resources to a direction I'll be bored of in a few months. Any suggestions?
What do you do to keep engaged? Show me your cool projects for inspiration? I love tobiano, dapples, liver chestnuts, watercolor.Barn ID# 14199 -
Here's a few of my favorite horses if thats helpful.

Maybe start a horse with multiple genes? Like a stallion with tobiano and another kit gene, shatterglass and jewel box, watercolor and toner or inkspot, throw in some gp, het silver, kp/kp2, only het onyx, maybe even mix it up and add het frame?
I was getting bored with mine as well and I realized it’s because I made the foundation mares and stallions too specific, so everything was turning out very similar and there wasn’t much of a surprise. I’ll post my two newest studs and how I’m working them to be able to get a good mix up :)Thanked by 14laska -
KCL Ancalagon
This boy was my first newest stallion-
He does have a lot of him, but his mares are all very different, one platinum champagne plaid, one with inkspot, one with void, another with two ice genes.
And the foals I have gotten with that combo (some mares aren’t of age yet)

KCL Greekaccino
My second stallion-
He is purposely Ee Aa so I get a wide variety of colors depending on the mare. He has dfp 1&2 to switch it up, and multiple het genes. And his mares aren’t gmt’d, just using rank specials (they’re all two so I don’t have examples of those)
But here are foals I have gotten from using eggs:

The second stallion is also getting chinchilla and mushroom eggs to mix in :)

I like this idea, I have been very specific with all my lines, and tend to make most of my foundies hom in most genes instead of het, so maybe that would allow for more variety. You have some gorgeous foals out of those, love Durin!Barn ID# 14199

I started a line with gray and het or hom nexus since the new gray changes happened. I've got a few foundations and I've been collecting lined horses to add in, so I'm accumulating new colors and patterns.
So far my favorite fantasy genes to stack have been watercolor, nacre, and inkspot. Nacre and watercolor are cool together, nacre and inkspot on a saturated color are cool together. Watercolor and inkspot sometimes end up being close to the same color and it's hard to see them both on the same horse.
I've got this really fancy watercolor nacre black horse that's purple from the watercolor. You can see on him that the inkspot is pink (it's visible over his hips) and is hard to see on the bright purple of the watercolor.

I'm really looking forward to adding void too! -
Thank you so much, Durin is my favorite out of him so far!
And now that I’m thinking about it, one of Ancalagons mares (the ice one) is going to eventually be het void, shatterglass, jewel box, w8 and tob, with ice 19 and 18. It might be neat to have a stallion that has all that plus toner/inkspot/watercolor on an amber champagne platinum base, with some fun het genes thrown in like rab, silver, gp, Kp2, etc and some genes to give additional further gen excitement like het snf, satin, s+, patn1, etc. (maybe with a mare with two other different kit genes like kit m and Sb2?)
That way it’s a challenge to get hom most genes and they’ll have more variety on shades and patterns! -
I’ve made this guy as my first real modified project, to give me some fun breeding and develop a line. I’m still pretty darn new but he gives me some fun directions to go. Can we tell I was also struggling to decide on a line to make?

I love the phantom genes thrown in with Wt , ink spot or toner , and when Chinchilla and some fun kit genes make for awesome color combinations.. plaid is super fun too
Climate Change the babies from these guys are always fun -
Void with Sun ruins is super fun also.

These are my two new "normal" lines. I wanted a new sable champgane boy & I've never bred bays,,,so why not?

I'm going to be running a VOID bootstrap herd and this is my new sire once he gets his second boost:

And now that I've seen it with sun runes I'm going to be adding those in.
