Cream Genes?
-
What are the differences in the four cream genes?
-
The genes located at "Cream" are not all referred to as cream. Forewarning that I am tired so sorry if not all of this makes sense.
The first one is called "Cream", with the shorthand being Cr. This is your classic dilution gene that basically everyone knows. It's what turns a chestnut into a palomino. The dilution/lightening of the coat is pretty prominent. It can also have the potential to cause blue eyes I believe.
This here is a "plain" chestnut, and a "plain" palomino. Ie they have no darkening genes (no sooty or dp).

Two copies of cream result in an even more extreme dilution, resulting in the likes of Perlinos and Cremellos, depending on the base coat (chestnut, bay, or black). These horses are near white. This Cremello is like the two horses above, with no darkening genes. So the only main change to the coat is the addition of the cream gene

The next gene on the list is Pearl, or Prl. Pearls dilution is more subtle/not as strong as cream. For a horse to have "Pearl" in their name they need two copies of the gene. It tends to also add a "shine", somewhat like a cheaper and more common version of satin, to the coat, like the luster of a pearl.
Below are two light Chestnuts to keep with the theme so far, one with one copy of pearl, and the other with two.

For Sun and Snow, the next two genes, they act exactly the same as Pearl does. They are a lot rarer to find, both in the game and on a horse in real life.
Combining pearl and cream on a horse can result in some amazing coats! I'm partial to Chocolate Palomino Pearls myself.
