Starting new lines question
-
Hello haj forest folks, I’m back again with another post.
I’m working on my first regular breeding line thats not bootstrapping. I started playing a couple of months ago, so I’m really learning right now. I’m working on my two stallions still, 1mil and 375k hbs left until I finish them- GMTing is hard work! But in the meantime I’m collecting foundation mares. I currently have 51 for breeding to my boys, all black with white spotting genes I need and some with Tiger eye etc.
My questions for this who are more experienced than me: How many did you start with? Should I stop creating and buying foundation mares now and relax or should I have more? How many did you start with?
Thanks for your help!Continuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

Up to 50 per stallion. I prefer to use all of my stallions breedings each season and, if I need more, I can pull straws. But if I'm able to I can chuck all 50 into the pasture, to make the gen2 foals much nicer than they'd usually be. Because you want two studs, I'd say you want around 100 mares.
That is unless you want to keep the numbers down. But certainly no more than 100 in total.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Thank you for this info!
I think because I’m a newbie I might stick to less than 100 simply because I don’t have much for space right now.Continuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

If you can, chuck all of those mares in the primary pasture that you get for them. You'll have 2 slots for stallions so both of them can breed the herd of girls at the same time. You'll get an email saying which of the resulting foals is the best of the crop as well. Not only is all of this helpful, but it frees up barn space for more show poniesProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Oh I definitely will! I ended up getting a premium upgrade cause I’m obsessed with the game, so I’ve got a big 100 pasture. Right now it’s got around 50 mares in it from my bootstrapping, but I can def throw the rest of them in there for now. It’s gonna be a hot minute before I can afford to finish my boys anyway, so I’ve got time. I’m sure I’ll break down and end up getting more mares even though I’m telling myself I won’t haha, I have a create a horse problemContinuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy

Because bootstrap breeding the stud tends to be so much higher quality than the mares, pasture bonus, while nice and speeds things up, isn't entirely necessary.
Or you could always buy a second pasture ;)Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Listen don’t tempt me on buying another pasture haha I need to finish these stallions first!
I could move my nice mares out cause I’m already getting gold/star foals, we will see if I’m emotionally strong enough to do it. My brain says “but BETTER foals” so I’m not sure I will move themContinuing my reign as the most annoying player on the forums and hgg’s favorite butch lesbian cowboy
