Understanding points/payout
  • Ok, explain to me how showing works; there's lifetime payout, and showing bonus, and daily... I'm confused! How exactly do they make money, and calculate your total daily payout? Also, does a horse's lifetime start to drop after age 10, or after training is complete? Below is a horse for example. Can someone explain exactly how it works?

    Training: Leveled Off
    Earnings this year: 560 hb's
    Points this year: 160.0
    Total earnings: 5096 hb's
    Total points: 1311
    Daily Payout: 140 hb's
    Current Lifetime Payout: 22400 hb's

  • A horses payout is determined by the amount of points they have. For each number of points you will get a certain number of hbs. I forgot the formulae we used to use before the game calculated this for us. These points dictate the daily payout as well as the lifetime payout, which is calculated up until a horse is about to age out of the game. Every month it is essentially reset if the horse survives rollover, and their new lifetime payout is how much money they will earn you that month. These are always calculated at the points the horse currently have. If you enter the horse into more shows and they gain more points, then both of these will increase.

    So, put simply
Daily payout = amount of hbs a day at the current points
Lifetime payout = amount of hbs total until the horse is 17 turning 18 at the current points

At the age of 10, you can enter a horse into the auction and the started bid will be their current lifetime payout at the points they have at the time of being entered. This means if you enter a 10yo and a 17yo, both with the same amount of points, the bid on the 10yo will be higher as they have more "lifetime" left.

  • Ok, for example:
My daily payout is 8600. If I bought this mare, would I make 140 more per day (her listed daily payout) plus whatever she makes in shows?
  • Your daily payout would increase by 140, yes. Most people don't pay attention to show winnings (the cash prize for coming first, for example) simply because that daily payout can be so powerful.

Looking at this horse itself, the 21k odd to place a bid could be worth it. She is leveled off, so not gaining much more score for the shows. This means that her current placements are a good indication of where she will be placing for the rest of her life. Her current score seems to be 270, plus or minus 1, which lands her in first place in her show class often enough to give her a big bump in points.

  • I don't fully understand how payouts work either. Do horses earn money from shows or just points that raise our daily show bonus payment?
  • Horses make money off of the total number of points they have. They gain points by showing 2x every week. They level up in shows by training them every week. If you have a premium upgrade you can used automatic training and showing, if you have a Basic upgrade you have to manually show them, but training is automatic. If you don’t have a upgrade you have to manually do both. When a horse quits training is based off of their PT score. A mare/stallion with a PT of 10.0 will be done training at around 10yrs of age, a spayed mare/gelding with a PT of 10 will be done training around 11yrs of age. That is why spelds are valuable.

When a horse levels off (quits training) there are usually stuck in whatever shows they are currently participating in, and wherever they are placing in the shows. A young horse that is still training can place dead last and still have a good probability of leveling off at the top of a different class. A horse who is leveled off and is coming in dead last is stuck, they won’t start preforming better. You want your show horses to continually win you points, because more points = higher daily payouts. Once a horse is done training you can evaluate where they are placing in shows and if they are earning you points.

Horses 10yrs old or older can be sent to auction for their current lifetime payout. That is a good way to get rid of the horses who aren’t earning you any more points. However if they aren’t done training or are placing first in all of their shows you are going to loose all the extra money and points they could earn you in their lifetime in exchange for a quick payout…

In my experience many horses reach their highest lifetime payout around 13-15. I personally auction all leveled off show horses who are earning less than 20 points a month. If a horse is earning more than 20 points a month they stay, no matter their age.

Lifetime payout is the money that horse will make you before the rollover (die) at age 18, if they never earn another point in there life. Some horses lifetime payout starts declining after 10, others hit their highest around 15. It depends on the horse and if they are still earning points from shows, and how many points they have total.

Daily bonus- is what that individual horse gives you every day. So your example horse is currently making you 140 a day. If it earns more points that number will go up.

Daily bonuses/payouts is calculated from the total number of points your horses have. You don’t have to calculate this number yourself it’s on your member home page, under performance overview. - You earn a xxx, xxxx hb's daily bonus from showing.

If you need clarification please keep asking questions until you understand. :)
  • does a horse's lifetime start to drop after age 10,

No, it drops every time they get older. It is based on the estimated time they have until death.

  • Where the age 10 comes into play is auctions. At the age of 10 the horses minimum payout price increases to their lifetime payout if that figure is higher than the base minimum payout.
  • How do horses that you breed that have no points/payouts work? Thanks
  • Horses gain points from showing. Normally, every horse created or born in the game does not have points. However newer accounts (ones under a certain number of points/pointed creates) are allowed to create foundation horses already with points. This is simply a boost. Rather than starting at number 0, they start at number 100 (for example, the number is random). All horses will gain points through shows so long as they place higher than last place.

Training your horse will increase their score. Their score determines what classes they will show in and where they will place. So training your horse can make them better/earn more. Foals/yearlings cannot be trained, and are stuck in the class 1L. Only two horses per show in 1L, with the winner gaining 0.5 points and last place does not gain points (as with all shows). This class is more or less a coin toss.

TL;DR Train your horse, show your horse, your horse gets points from shows (unless dead last), more points = more money.
