Merging Question
-
This is my first time making a lab bred chimera and I have a few questions before I do so.
1. They're gen 7 colts and testing aga sire. Should I use the MOA on one or both of them before merging?
2. Or, failing that, would I be able to use a boost post merge? I'd like for the finished colt to test superior if possible.
3. Do they have to be the same age? I have an older colt I'd maybe prefer, but am ok if not.
4. Will I be able to make the finished colt perfectly consistent and tweak a couple genes in the gmt lab or should I do them individually before merging?
Thanks for any and all help! -
Don't bost both colts, it is a waste of money. Wait until you are done merging to do any boosting or max out. It is not required to wait but since you are not sure how this works I would advise you to wait to prevent mistakes.
They do not need to be the same age. Just need to be full siblings.
Same advice as above. You can make consistent and tweak genes before but I advise you to do it after.
Depending on the colt MOA could be a waste. It was created for your sub-par foals, not your best foals. If you do max out and then boost you are guaranteed to get the maximum possible score though. Only do that if you are sure your 7th gen mare herd will support that or are willing to put up with low intact foal rates.Need to contact me? Read this first. I don’t have answers to all of them, but I can tell you these
2. You can use boosts on a merged horse.
3. They do not have to be the same age. I had a horse that had aged quite a bit in the time it took me to get all the genes I needed. I merged him with a yearling and he became a yearling. I believe the age depends on who you put on the primary strand. I put the yearling as the primary.
4. You can gmt a merged horse, and that should include consistency. It doesn’t matter if you do the genes before or after the merge, you will be able to choose out of the 4 strands where you want the genes to go.
Hope this helps!
Edit: I guess I was writing at the same time as Ammit hahaID# 45123 -
You have no control over which will be the primary strand. The older horse is always the primary strand. That is not related at all to which horse will be kept and become the merged horse and which will be deleted. Two different concepts.Need to contact me? Read this first. Thank you both so much! I'm off to see what I can get accomplished :)

This is my new boy! With the MOA he passed SBA and is testing aga sire. I have a 5% boost but I'm not sure. I may stick a couple 1% on him instead, or I may just leave him to avoid mare lag. Thank you so much for helping me with this process!
