Get a star stallion and any mares you want to breed to him. I start with about 25% blue papered and 75% foundations. I go until i have more mares than i can breed, and then the lower papered mares either move into other breeding programs or get snipped to show.

I do all tests on every colt and all but breeding advice on every filly. If the filly is higher papered than mom, she stays intact. If she's the same paper for yellow or red, or more than the second gen of blue, she is snipped and shown. I will eventually get a colt who passes breeding advice, and then he becomes the next herd sire.

Currently I'm breeding 2 stallions who are foals of my first bootstrap sire, because they both tested AGA sire and i liked both. I'm playing with fantasy genes and gray in this herd.

Basically: mares will progress yellow>red>blue>blue>gold, typically for my experience. You'll end up with lots of show geldings until you're getting more than half star papered, most likely.

I keep everyone in the barn to show, so that's probably why i have mare lag and it takes me so long to get an AGA colt. But i don't mind the slow progress.

Thank you so much this was super super helpful! I’m definitely running out of space now so I’ll have to sell off some of my pointed foundies since I have so many. I’m trying to focus on cobs, and it seems like the drafter types w higher PT and paper levels are harder to find? I’ll talk to the bootstrapping chat and see if anyone has any they want to move along

@VenemousGiant I also have bootstrap dock available that I'd be happy to see them go to a good home. Look through these and PM me if anyone catches your eye. A large portion are cobs and drafts!

He’s a looker for sure! I think he was the first stallion I saved up for when I started actually using my account and playing. He’s thrown me some really adorable babies
