Hi everyone! I'm Robin :) I've loved horses ever since I was little -I lived near a farm and they were these huge and graceful creatures and they had such kind eyes. I was obsessed.
I joined HAJ because I really wanted to play a horse game where I get to collect and breed myself a whole herd of awesome horses.
I've got one cat who has a name but just gets called Baby Boy all the time. I really want a dog and another cat or two (and a whole farm, lets be honest.) But BB refuses to co-exist with any other animal.
I'd love some new friends, don't have many (any) who will play horse games with me.
Honestly the whole UI and navigation is confusing for me, I'm sure I'll get it in time though! just press the buttons until i end up where I need to be.
I'll drink Coke or Pepsi when offered but I'm a Dr. Pepper Boy til the end (caffeine has not been good for my heart, historically)
Messages are always open and I'll check back here, hit me up if you ever need anything or just wanna chat :) (or maybe have any noob advice for me)Thanked by 1BossScorpio -

Hi, I just got on the game a while ago and have been enjoying the game a lot.
-
Hello everyone!
I go by mostly Bee or Beepups.
I was looking for games that help me learn a bit more about the genetics of animal breeding within horses, cats and dogs and have joined games relating to that because it makes learning about them a LOT easier.
I used to play howrse a lot but I'm not a fan of the "log in everyday or else!" Type of mechanic so I thought I'd give this one a try.
I'm not super sociable so it's highly likely for me to mainly keep to myself unless I need help ;v; I struggle to be active but like to be able to pop back in at my own pace.
Also Pepsi definitely -

Hi! excited to be here
-
Hi! I'm a computational biologist and enjoy genetic based games - IRL I know quite a bit about dog genetics & breeding but have only ridden horses casually, never owned or been involved in breeding. Thought this would be a fun way to get into it... although I'm still trying to figure out "goals" around here, so any tips are appreciated!
-
Welcome one, welcome all~!
This game can be very "loose" in terms of goals. While new, I do 100% suggest doing the introductory questline. It'll give you money, barn space, and reading the instructions and completing them does help with navigating the game.
Building a show herd is also very important. Every point that a horse earns in a show goes towards a daily income for you. So the more horses for showing, the more points, and more money you get~! As a new player you do create horses with points, and I suggest that you keep the ones with a higher amount of points. When I trialed the new system recently, I kept all horses pointed 500 and above, whether they passed Breeding Advice or not.
For breeding goals, this is highly individual to the person. Bootstrapping is always a good way to start out. Bootstrapping refers to the process of taking a very high papered horse and breeding them to low papered horses. You then breed the foals back to the high papered one, rinse and repeat. BA/SBA is not used at all. Breeding Inspection is, but you need at least a basic upgrade, or can just wing it with what you think is pretty to breed on. This is a very quick way to get high PT (performance test) which results in show horses who can reach those high, money earning levels. People quite often sell high papered studs for dirt cheap as well, some of them with "fancy" genes like satin, Sooty+, that are unlikely if not downright impossible to find on a random create horse. If you're interested in doing this, going the Bootstrap chatroom and make a post in there asking if anyone has a stud to get you started. It's nearing the end of the breeding season (28th of every month) so still time to get some breeding in!
The other way is known as "even breeding". Where you start with foundation horses (ones you create), breed those together, then breed their foals (second gen) to each other, then so on and so forth, using BA to keep the quality increasing.
Those are some ways on how to breed, but as to what to breed that is entirely up to you! Some like riding horses, some like warmbloods, some like drafts. Some love livers, and others go gaga for bays. Quite often people will post their favourite foals in the forum. I personally love the chatroom Stacking The Colours. And if you have a real life interest in a certain colour of horse, posting it in the forum can be a good way to get the community trouble-shooting to see what gene combinations can result in the colour and pattern that makes it up.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. I've been trying to gauge the costs and benefits of even vs uneven breeding but haven't found a detailed breakdown yet. I did just pick up a handful of high PT, A papered but 0 era horses at auction for dirt cheap. I was mostly planning on altering them and just using them for showing, but I'm tempted with breeding plans for the one 13.7/*Star stallion I got... just can't decide if I want to make things more complicated with uneven breeding or not!
-
Honestly with uneven breeding as a free account, you can just choose what foals you want based on how pretty they are. You can go off of PT and consistency. Consistency is inherited, and consistent horses get more consistent scores and placings in shows. For example, they'll always score a 125, plus or minus 1, so their placement in the show and the amount of points they earn remain stable. But an inconsistent horse could be plus or minus 3. You can also get very inconsistent horses whose score changes even more.
For PT this is more of a gauge of how good of a producer the parents are (papering/breeding inspection). The higher pt they produce, the higher they will paper, which breeding inspection will show. This however doesn't mean that the foal will be better than their parents. If you want to cull on PT, you'd probably need to keep the fillies for a little while and do "test" breedings, look at the PT of the foals and if the mare isn't producing high enough for you you can spey her.
Further on for the showing, PT is a rough estimate of the age that a horse will stop improving so much with training. So a horse with a PT of 9 will level off at roughly 9 years of age. They will still gain more "score" from training, but it is a very very small amount. But a horse with a PT of 12 will continue advancing past that PT 9 horse, climbing the show levels. The higher level the show, the more money required to enter, the more money from the show and, most importantly, the more points you horse wins. Every placement, apart from last place, will net a horse more points.
For era, the foal gains the lowest era of their parents. Era 0 horses are descendants of those at the very beginning of this game. Some of them are from amazing quality lines, and starting with an era 0 star stud could be a very huge boost!
I will quickly add here that Breeding Advice compares a horse to BOTH parents. So if the foal is not in the ballpark of both parents, they will be altered. A foundation mare (Yellow or red, the latter being from exceptional producer/exceptionally perfect) and a star stud will very rarely, if ever, produce a foal together that will pass BA.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Oh, I definitely already bought the upgrade haha. I think I've got the basics all figured out but now I'm digging into details. For example, I'm sitting on a handful of Exceptional Producer DHHs - are these worth using when I'm still creating pointed horses, or should I focus on quality showing horses at this point? I'm not sure what it *means* to be an exceptional producer - or even really what it means to be a good breeding horse. I'm sure they've got to be worth using, but is it better to create producers as yearlings or breeding age? (-1 right now, since they'll be aging up so soon anyway.)
-
So there are some HHs which give breeding and showing bonuses. These are:
Top Notch Producer: 100% breeding ability
Perfect Foundation: 100% breeding ability, 9.9PT and consistent.
Exceptional Producer: 105% breeding ability (papers low red/B)
Exceptionally Perfect: 105% breeding ability and 10.4PT.
A lot of established people on the game tend to have at the very least one line with only red/B papered foundations. The increase in papering level means it's easier to get higher papers sooner. I think Some people have even gotten Gold/Star on 3rd gen? but it is certainly possible by 4th gen. Not only that but sometimes people will even boost their foundations to A paper, another increase. The higher the paper, the higher PT the horse will produce in their foals.
Papering order goes, for Mare/Stallion:
Showable Only/Failed (Not sure if this one is the right way around)
Yellow/C
Red/B
Blue/A
Gold/Star
Within these there are also "levels", especially the gold/star, but you can only discover these through comparison testing.
For creating a show horse, many people prefer either yearling or 2 years old, as it gives the horse more time to enter shows, and thus more opportunities to get more points. Or at least it *feels* like it. It's also good if one is looking at gmting a horse. Gmt = Genetic Modification Token, and is used as a shorthand for altering a horses colour code to match what one wants. Foundation horses can have anything gmted onto them. Lined horses can only have a combination of their parents, no new genes can be introduced. The Roving Gene Sale (RGS) has some very special genes that come up that usually require licenses (which buying the gene gives you). These refresh on the first of the month and the 15th, so the longer time a horse has to get modified before they're of breeding age and the temptation is too much to use them is very helpful. Not to mention buying GMTs with game money is a bit expensive, so can take some time to build them up.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Hello! I am starting over since my last barn was deleted. Don't know how or why but I am just starting over with a little knowledge this time!
-
Hi I’m sorta quiet and I have no clue how the foals grow up and how to enter in a show
-
All horses age up 1 year (or in the case of foals, to 2 years old) at the start of every month.
To enter a show, you go to your horses barn. The very left column should be labeled "Enter Show". If there is a little flag, then that horse can be entered! Horses can be entered in twice a day. If you have a basic upgrade, you can click the "Enter this barn" button at the bottom of the barn to enter all eligible horses.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
