My Thoughts For New Player Experience
  • I created this puppet account, and I've been playing around with ideas for how to make the new player experience clearer. The first thought that came to mind was how confusing it can be. When I first joined, all the things like "Boost Tokens" and "Gene Mod Treatment" made no sense to me. And maybe it is just me, but when I was a new player, I didn't find the FAQ until months after I had started playing. There's the problem, and the first solution that came to mind was a "tutorial". Simply, when you first make a new account and log in, if there was some sort of a pop-up explaining things like where you find your barns, pastures, and how to create horses. Something to essentially point out all of the basic functions on the site, and most importantly, to point out the FAQ. I think this could help explain what things on the sidebar meant, without being super complicated. (But then again, I am not a game-creator, this could be impossible to add at this point.) I just thought it would be nice for there to be something to point new players in the right direction to understand what things meant and how to find information.

  • Additional thoughts:

    On your member page, when you look at your gene licenses, what if when you click on a gene license that you have it directed you to the horses you owned with that gene, instead of all of the horses in the game with that gene? Or there could be a separate button beneath the gene licenses you have that would say something like "see your horses with x gene".

  • On the Horse Creation page, what if there was a link at the top of the page to the daily herd helper forum thread? That way new players know where to find the herd helper thread and connect it to the horse creation page :)

  • Also on the Horse Creation page, there could be a link to see all of the Herd Helper list, since I know not a lot of people see it. It would make it easier for a new player to see all of the possible RS and HHs!

  • When selling a pointed foundation horse, what if there was a little tip as you are putting it for sale saying something like: "pointed creates often sell at half of their all-time payout". I think an issue a lot of newer players run into is figuring out how to price horses. I know we already have the price in the HH page, but I think that would be a nice tip. :)

  • And now, for possibly the biggest thing....

    The GMT lab. When editing genes, what if there was a "preview" button? It's always a bummer when you add a gene and it looks nothing like what you wanted. I think it would be really helpful to have a preview of what the horse would look like first. I cannot emphasize it enough- it would literally make me so happy.

  • I think that's about all I have for suggestions- this has been really fun, Ammit! I hope not all of my suggestions are horrible, haha, it was definitely fun to go into the world of fantasy for a while and dream up some ideas for H&J. :)
