Back from a break.. who else has gone on a break and come back?
-
People that have gone in a break from the game, I want to hear how you came back?
Did you change your goals? Start fresh or just pickup where you left off?
However you done it did you regret it?
With real life i lost interest in this game. I still tried to log on monthly to pull foals from pasture but lately not even that. But since my son has started kindy I now have half an hour spare every day while I sit in my car and wait for school to finish so I’m trying to come back.
But I think my biggest problem was I got so many fancy genes and just mingled everyone and have also ended up with so many being bred that I just lost the whole excitement of breeding as everybody was so cool anyway with great genes that I wasn’t excited about what I would get as I knew they would all be worthy of keeping.
I’ve been contemplating scrapping most of my herd and starting from scratch with just basic/non licensed genes for now.
But I’ve put so much work and time into them I’m worried I may regret doing that.
I’ve also thought about not having even lined breeding and just bootstrap everything, so I don’t get overwhelmed with all the sorting and worrying about who should be where, but again I’ve put so much time into keeping my lines even by generation that I’m worried I’ll regret that too.
So I’m not quite sure what to do. Sell everything and start fresh or just continue on like I never stopped.
So please tell your your stories on how you can back and if you changed anything?

I didn’t necessarily take a full-on break, but for almost a full year I didn’t really do anything on this server and just lost focus on whatever my goals had been before. Eventually I came to the conclusion that it would be easiest to scrap pretty much everything and start over.
I didn’t have a high daily payout, but I had a decent amount accumulated, so I sold off enough so that I could start making pointed creates again. Made a nice stallion and a couple mares so that I’d have the beginnings of a decent line. Already had a good bootstrap stud and a few mares, so sorted all of them into my primary pasture. Stalked the auction and sales lists for more bootstrap mares. Condensed everything into 1 1000 stall barn. Recently got a premium account because it was worth it to me, just in case I did forget about it again, it will automatically show horses.
Still a far cry from where I want to be, but it’s a good start. Welcome back and good luck! -
Welcome back!
My story's not quite the same thing, because I've never taken a prolonged hiatus, but how I play now is different from what it was prior to university (once upon a time, I had more spare time).
I've restructured once or twice because I just wasn't happy with where my herd was, and I wasn't excited about my foals anymore. I finally sat down and looked through my horses and used search to find gene combos that I really loved, and started rebuilding with those goals in mind. Now, I only have three lines I breed for and I don't feel so overwhelmed with my foals anymore. If I ever feel like I have too many mares or stallions, I'll go through and snip a whole bunch that don't quite fit what I want (whether that's for genes, paper level, or PT score).
Maybe try a little of both! Start doing more bootstrapping, but also keep doing some even breeding. If it's sheer numbers that overwhelm you, maybe set a limit for how many mares to breed per season--like one pasture per generation, or something? That way, you might find yourself weeding out the mares you aren't as fond of, and only breed your favourites.ID# 25784 -
I sold everything and quit for a while, so when I came back, while some of my horses were still alive, I really had to start from scratch.
So my questions are these:
How’s your daily bonus and your show herd? Does this need to be a focus to help sustain play long term, or are you sitting in a good spot?
If you need some funds, I definitely recommend you look into bootstrapping for a while with your current herd of mares just to build up that show herd. It will also be a little easier to manage testing and sorting if your stallion is significantly better than your mares for a couple months.
If you’re in a good place, I would definitely take a little time scrolling through your herd, starting specifically with your stallions, and trying to narrow down to a couple of specific genes you really want to focus on. If you do that and nothing clicks for you, check out the leaderboards or do some searching and see if anything jumps out. That can help you pick a direction.
I will say that starting over again from scratch was frustrating on some levels because I had a pretty high quality herd when I quit and it wasn’t exactly a quick process to get back to that. But it gave me a chance to really think about what I liked about the game and what I wanted to work towards. My core lines from when I restarted are still my core lines today for the most part. -
I ended up taking a short break when RL got rocky for me. However I knew I needed a creative outlet, that had no bearing on the RL so I had to find a way to get excited about the game again.
I had to dump a lot of new blood and genes into my line. I also had to pair of my lines down to a more manageable number. So I was able to salvage my line, but I’m still bumping into a hard spot of not caring anymore. I’m currently contemplating scrapping everything higher than 4g, but that was a two minute ago idea so it might not go anywhere.
If you are worried about your lines just pull a ton of straws and eggs so if you ever decide to re start your old lines you can. Or if you want a sentimental baby or two.

Thankyou everyone for the ideas :)
My show herd while thinned out (back when I played all the time I was having to thing out my show herd every season as my barns were full) it’s still decent that I’m getting 500k show bonus a day. So not having to worry about funds and id definitely keep my show herd.
As for breeding I kinda got lots of fancy genes and just kept stacking them so much onto everything that the excitement wore off hence why I’m thinking of starting from basic genes again.
I do love the idea of pulling eggs and straws though!
I may cut back some of my higher gens and see if I get back into it and then decide whether to cull lower gens and start from scratch.

I don’t MEAN to take a break, but it happens in my life. I have an (almost) 4 month old daughter and a full time job and unfortunately we live with his family for now. So part of the deal (venting to y’all) is on our off days we are supposed to help keep the house clean. This household is actually 3 households (his mom & dad, his uncle, then us 2 and baby). Everybody is supposed to take a turn, but somehow… it always ends up back on me. Literally. They’ll wait to do dishes until the day I have off then expect the house to be cleaned when mom comes home from work. It’s so backwards and unfair. We pay almost enough rent per month to pay for our own 2 bedroom apartment… We cannot wait to move.
Anyway…
Yes. Occasionally life prevents me from being as diligent as I should be. In the past I’ve taken a year and a half off. And lost one of my most expensive GMT foundation studs in the process, completely wasted. Never was used, just sat and rotted til he aged out. Didn’t even get shown. That was really the only downfall. Otherwise the account kept racking up hbs, which was helpful when I began collecting foundation mares again.
Most commonly I take off a month to a month and a half. It does affect much. I try to log in long enough to at least pull foals and send a group to auction. Then leave the account to do its thing. The biggest downfall is to try to protect your expensive projects. Trying to remember to pull eggs and semen from important projects, adding the young mares to pastures to begin their pasture bonus. Simple things but yet so easily forgotten.ID# 24891

Long winded I’m sure, but if you know ahead of time you’ll be taking off… I would highly recommend converting your facility into a show facility and let it do its thing without you around. Set up auto show, and just let it accumulate hbs. You could keep your best in pasture and move foals before the end of the month, too. Which is kind of what I’m working on now. I’ve gotten things running smoothly that I really don’t need to be here much. I’m losing money from sales, but it kind of pays off in terms of giving me more time to be confidently away and knowing it’ll be alright.
The worst is knowing how much real money you’ve spent on projects and then life just happens LOLID# 24891

When I came back I tried to condense everthing as much as I can, expect for start a new 1 pasture project that would challenge me again. I started trying to weed out earlier generations so I could put higher generations in pastures and breed them so I would feel like I was getting somewhere. he thing is to keep what you like about the game while making new things you like to bring yourself back inAll into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.

I just came back and am excited about some of the new genes and the gene I’d wanted forever (Height Regulator) is closed so there’s no point in me breeding them since they’ll only ever be worth the auction price.
