I've been having a rough time with my depression lately. I need a pick me up. I've been wanting a dog to have around. I've found plenty I'd like to get but their adoption fees have been too pricey. I set up a GoFundMe to see if it would help me be able to adopt a dog and it's not looking likely either. Mental illness sucks.

Would volunteering to help walk/socialize dogs at a shelter or rescue help?

I know how difficult depression is and I hope you are feeling better soon.

Consider adopting a senior dog - they can have a lot of life and love left in them but since they are often difficult to adopt out, their adoption fees are usually lower.

However, consider that if you are having difficulty paying the adoption fee, you may have trouble affording food and veterinary care.

I'm sorry things have been rough lately! It sounds like you really enjoy being around animals, is there a way you could get paid to pet-sit for friends, or work out a deal where you can take a friend's dog for a walk sometimes? Many pet owners I know have been very willing to let me walk their dogs during times in my life when I've been pet-deprived.
