I Think my Goat is Kidding Today so I will Talk about it between Checking on her for Both our sanity
-
Hi, one of my goats I am waiting to kid with hopes of getting a replacement dueling as my youngest doe is 8 is starting contractions. I am really excited, though siting staring at her the past few hours hasn't done anything so I am giving her some privacy instead and seeing if that helps things along. I like mixing things up with goats to get a look different than what is seen with any established breed right now, and this goat and her full sister I am also waiting on are the best representations of the look I am going for so far (Spending 7 years away from breeding for keepers as I was in college kinda put a damper on things, but this year they were bread to a promising buck instead of one to specifically try to get kids that don't fit what I was looking for, so I am excited)
This doe, Zara, is red colored with a blaze and white tail tip, blue eyes, mid sized goat with good milk production and minimal spotting. She is heterozygous red (a desired trait) het black, plus het chocolate modifier on black (I don't know if the chocolate helps create red on a cream goat, haven't found any scholarly articles about any link with that yet, really they are confused about what exactly changes a cream goat to a red or even rust colored goat yet, they are talking about 9 theoretical cream modifiers, but for now I consider red close to the mother's color and cream being a more blonde or cream color) she is het for blue eyes, het normal eyes, (Hope is blue eyes) het for paint spots (Hope is present but minimal spotting) and het for white on forehead and tail tip (also desirable) She often has 3 babies and is the bigger around of the two does)
The buck, Tank is from really good mid sized milking lines as well, is black (Unlike horses, black is recessive to red/ cream on goats, I have found several sources of articles plus people with red golden gurney goats confused about black kids to show this) is possibly homozygous for blue eyes (These will be his first kids, so let's see, both his parents had blue eyes) He obviously does not have chocolate, has minimal spotting and white forehead and tail tip plus has long hair (Another desirable trait I want to bring in)
The second doe, Nessie, has the same gene mix as Zara, bred to the same buck, and although is not having contractions last time I checked is due any day too. She often has twins or triplets but is not quite as big around as Zara. Really excited to see what these two have.
Trying to decide if I want to make a game of who wants to try to guess what they will have, though since I have already laid out what I want that kinda screws things. Well, now I will post things and then go stare at the goats a while again. I am just really excited and hope Zara has her babies before work tomorrow! All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps. -

Ok, I couldn't figure out how to put picks on here, but here is a link to a slideshow I slapped together fast. The red doeling is a keeper. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1dPSbrAcZFOPH67h4WVRlWoSpWs4JRY9g0WiQFXd-keU/edit?usp=sharingAll into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.

If those aren't adorable, I don't know what is!
What breed of goat are they, if you don't mind me asking? -
Thank you. They are my own mix I am working on, though these ones are mostly alpine, Sannan, Nigerian cross to get the right mix of things I am looking for. I often debate whether I should come up with a name to call them, but would it help or just create controversy I don't know... Plus I can't think up if a name. But I have a look and quality of goat I want to see and these guys fit the bill with some regularity (depending on the buck bred to of coarse) and so I am happy with it.All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.

Congrats. I sold my babies this year. All 3 went back to farms. Your babies are very cute.

My dad bred Pygmy and brush goats for about 12 years when I was growing up. Absolutely love goats, the kids are hilarious when they start bouncing around. You have cute babies, can’t wait to see how they grow!
