Flood - Asking for positive thoughts.
-
On Thursday, while I was at work, my home was hit by a significant flood event. I'm fine. My pets are fine. My commuting car is fine. The living area of the house is fine. Anything in my basement that wasn't on a shelf or in a plastic tote is not fine, and the water is still coming in. Everything in the garage looks ruined, including my old car and my brand new lawnmower. There was about 4 feet of water in the back yard, 3.5 feet of water in the garage, and I had water up against the foundation of the house for a while. Now it's mostly groundwater coming in.
I'm already several hundred dollars in for gear and an emergency plumber call to replace the sump pump that trudged along gamely for about ten hours before it decided the job wasn't really a good fit and it wanted to seek other opportunities as an industrial chic statue or a large paperweight.
I don't know if the furnace is okay, but the central air is definitely out of commision, and I'm not sure about the hot water heater.
No flood insurance. I tried to get it after the LAST major flood in 2008 and was told my property doesn't qualify because it's not in a flood plain.
Frankly, I'm just asking for positive vibes or prayers or however you roll on the good thoughts spectrum. I'm not getting any younger and I don't have any help here, so I'm dealing with this solo. I'll get it done. It's not my first rodeo. But I'm feeling just a little overwhelmed at the moment.
Thanks for reading my vent!--------------------------------

You already know I'm thinking of you. It's hard for me to imagine that water could cause such a mess when we're in so much trouble here due the lack of it. (I'll take half - maybe that will solve all our problems?!) I really hope and pray the expenses don't keep mounting too.
