Even breeding question?
-
Is having an even bloodline on both sides of the pedigree necessary or just a personal preference? Does having an uneven pedigree have any negative effects breeding-wise/do you have to watch papering levels closer? Or does it really not matter at all?ID 32206 | Wolf735 | Nightmane Stables

I sell all my RS's as custom creates. Message me to reserve an upcoming create. -
I believe it’s preference. Your best chances for an intact offspring comes from matching breeding ability/paper level between the parents, regardless of their generation. (As far as I know!)Thanked by 1Ammit

Personal preference. Although it is harder to sell horses with uneven pedigrees, unless you are selling them as show horses.

There's no wrong or right way to breed - there are a lot of different methods that can help you acheive different goals, but you are never "doing it wrong!" Breed for foals that make you happy, and if others like your horses too, that's just extra. I do find it hard to sell my foals anyways just because popularity and prices are always fluctuating.
That said, for me, even breeding by generation just makes it easy for me to set my own standards for quality at each generation. It makes it easy to assess what kind of foals are being produced at each generation level and what changes I need to make to get what I want.
However, if you breed evenly by paper but not necessarily by generation, you might have an easier time getting lots of intact foals. If that is your goal, then that strategy is great!
And, if you really do want to sell your uneven foals, you can always market them to bootstrap breeders. That breeding strategy is super popular right now so it might actually be easier to sell uneven stock than one would think.ID 43830
It's nice to be back! :)

There is no wrong or right way to breed them and even breeding certainly isn't a must, just preference. I do even generation breeding because it gives me goals for each generation and it's easier to track quality through the generations. I don't necessarily breed even paper levels, but then my goal is to improve, not keep them the same. Mixed generations don't have a place with my breeding but they do with plenty of other people. Breed however makes you happy
