I’m back/update
  • So about two weeks ago I stated I’d be taking a break from the game due to a family emergency. While everything isn’t back to normal (nor will it ever be the same) I decided to do an update since I’m able to spend some more time on the game, and am actually at a place where support would be nice. I was pretty shell shocked for the first week, and stressed out the second. I’m still a mess but well everything starting to get better.

On June 8th my mom had a stroke or rather multiples and was rushed to the hospital via ambulance. However at that time we didn’t know it was a stroke since it was a very rare form of stroke that has different symptoms than an average stroke. She was extremely dizzy, disoriented, extreme nausea, and couldn’t locate her limbs, she had body function, but was unable to do anything with it. They did two CT scans one of her head and one of her neck, both came back negative, and the Dr. believed it was a severe case of vertigo, he said he couldn’t order an MRI and we would have to get the family Dr to order one the next day or later in the week. He actually discharged her! He tried to discharge a patient with a stroke! They ditched that plan once they tried to get her to stand up and she rag-dolled on them, (her words) luckily the new Dr came on shift around that time. That Dr finally let my dad back there with her, since she was essentially paralyzed. He ordered an MRI, but they weren’t able to do it that night so they did it the next morning over 12hrs later. They read the MRI and it showed a stroke in the cerebellum where her balance center is. There was a tear in her vertebral artery that caused the stroke/s, this was found 20hrs after the fact, and it was way too late to administer the stoke medicine leaving permanent brain damage. Despite getting to the hospital within 30 minutes of the stroke occurring, and having all of the textbook symptoms for that type of stroke.

We put my mom on multiple prayer chains right away, and on Thursday she started making some progress. She went from not being able to lift her head, to walking with a walker. She continued to make huge leaps of progress and Monday she was transferred to a rehab facility. This is what she told the family later that day. “I just met with the neurologist, he was shocked to see me as I am. In his 25 years he has only had 7 cases in this area of the brain and those, he will never forget. my MRI shows catastrophic damage to my cerebellum and brain stem. He expected me to be laying in bed still unable to move for at least 10-12 weeks with limited lifetime recovery or even death. He says I'm a miracle! Because of the type of damage and the vertibral artery needing to heal, I'm still at risk for at least 3 months of another stroke.“ She was at the rehab facility for 3 days, and came home Friday 19th. Another miracle. She is slowly re learning a lot of motor control. Cooking box brownies was a challenge and it will be a long process to go back to normal.

So that’s been my past two weeks. On top of that my mare cut herself up a enough to limp, so I couldn’t even go for a ride to relieve stress.
  • I will add your mom to my prayer list. Her recovery is indeed amazing. May she have no more strokes as time goes by.

  • Thank you @SandycreekFarm, her having another stroke is the only thing my family is really concerned about her recovery, just because it had such high percentages of happening again.
  • Thanks for the update. I will keep your mom and you in my prayers. I am glad she is making good progress in her recovery.
  • Hugs.

I'm so glad your mom is making good progress. I'll pray for continuing strength and healing, and that your whole family makes it through this change.
