Are they worth GMTing to consistent?
  • Hey all,

I've been so torn on GMTing these two. Both came out inconsistent, which I usually don't keep, but something about them made me hang onto them and think about GMTing. What do you all think? Should I save up my tokens or?

This girl is hom Chocolate and Phantom Leaves, and she carries KP2 and Dp.

This guy is A papered (sup to sire) and hom Ice 1 and het KP.

Any help is much appreciated! :D

I am licenced to: Mushroom, Watercolour, Chinchilla, Onyx, Phantom Lace, and Phantom Autumn

Currently breeding: Axiom Nexus, sabino Mushroom, Chocolate/Lace, silver Onyx/Chinchilla, Satin pearl, roan Ice 1, and Watercolour Warmbloods.
  • I would do the mare, and check to see the studs brothers. Boys are only worth gmts if they are perfect otherwise. My trap is turning excess really good boys into girls.

  • @Seaswell thank you! I will definitely do the mare :)

He is the best of his brothers, but I own his dad (who I can keep breeding) and have another up and coming 2G A papered 2 y/o who would likely throw just as nice or better babies than this guy. It may be smart to hold off on him.

  • That stud would only be raised to a 10.5 PT, which if you look at his parents really isn’t that much higher than them. I would hold off if you can, at least one more season and see what you come up with.
Also something to think about, is if you use a second gen A with second gen red mares (if from a c/yellow pairing) you might have trouble getting intact foals. The sire would likely be significantly better than the dams, and even with full pasture bonus it could be rough. I’m currently using an ExPerf stud with perfect foundation mares and it can be tough, I get all red and blue mares but I lose quite a few of the reds because they don’t compare to the sire’s quality.

  • Thanks @FallenShadows714! I will not GMT him then, as it doesn't seem to make much sense now, and keep trying for another colt.

I have a different 2G stud to pair with my red 2G mares from my yellow/c foundie parents. I will probably cross my 2G A papered guy with my Blue 2G mares from my Nexus foundie ^^

  • I gmt my keeper colts to consistent, but I don't usually worry about the mares
