gmt question
-
I have this foal that I turned into a stallion. I would like to reduce the total amount of White in the appaloosa look. would that be achieved through lowering the White factor or getting rid of the W20 thanks :)

I'd say the w20 but I've never GMT'ed that off myself so it's just a guessWolfgang Pride ID 554

The reason he looks like that is because he is homozygous Lp and homozygous PATN1. The fact he is homozygous Lp means he won’t show Appy spots, he will just show a big white blanket where the spots would normally be. The face he is homozygous PATN1 means he has a large blanket area, versus a smaller area of spots like his dam. If you want to reduce the area and amount of spots, you would need to remove one Lp (it can be from either parent since both are only heterozygous), and remove the dam’s copy of PATN1 (the sire is homozygous so his copy cannot be removed). W20 really doesn’t play much factor into Appy spots.Thanked by 1Lallyhop

Neither white factor nor W20 affect Appy.
As FallenShadows said, if you want to add spots to the current size of white pattern, remove one Llp. If you want to leave it all white but reduce the size of the white blanket, remove one PATN1. If you want to do both...you’ve got the idea!Thanked by 1Lallyhop -
Ah okay thanks everyone! I understand now :)

I can tell just from his picture that you pulled a copy of Lp. He looks great!
