First Time Starting a Line - HELP
  • HI !

I'm looking to start my first line of genes that are my favorites. My ideal horse would have the Bay, Silver, and Satin gene.

What are tips and tricks you know of and what I should watch out for?

Or if you have possible horses that could help me achieve this please let me know!

    Any advice is appreciated!

    Thank you!

    xoxo Frosty
  • Bay and silver should be relatively easy to add to your herd. Bay is a fairly common create, and there are herd helpers that can create both bays and silvers. I prefer breeding from Red-papered foundations; there's an Exceptionally Producing Silver herd helper if you prefer Reds to Yellows, but there's no rules either way. A single copy of silver will show on any horse with a dominant extension gene (E_), but will not show at on on red-based horses (ee).

Satin will be a bit harder as cannot be generated on a create horse. You can add to foundations for real $ via the random gene sales, or using tokens in the GMT lab. Satin is fairly pricey; a single copy of Satin is 40 GMTs and you need two copies of the allele sa for the satin to show.

I have some heterozygous satin horses I could pass along, but they are unevenly bred bootstraps horses (which means a high-papered sire was crossed with lower mares to boost breeding and showing ability of the herd, but the foals will likely not pass BA and have tangled family trees). I'm not sure if those would be useful to you or not.

  • Do you mean starting a line from foundation horses? As said above it's fairly easy to pick silver bay foundations, DP looks good on silver bay as well so adding an cherry drop foundation might be helpful. As for the satin yes you will either need to buy with real money when it's in the roving genes sales, or spend a lot of gmt's!

If you are happy to use other people's lines and just want your own herd of silver bays with satin, there is heaps of satin in the mixed pedigree bootstrap bred horses, they are all usually sold relatively cheaply, especially if you post a post up saying what you are looking for I'm sure you could find a few!
  • I bought some straws from people who added satin to their foundation studs. You might want to do a post in breeding ads and sales asking for satin straws.

  • FYI if you're looking to GMT your own horses, the cost of satin just went down to 20 GMTs with the latest update! Still expensive, but half what it used to be.
