I absolutely breed for DP bay, but I don’t worry about it on my black based horses and it’s not in my black based chin/Mach line at all. If you’re considering breeding him to a wide color range of mares, some DP can always add some extra depth, but if you’re planning for a silver black line, I would tend to say DP is a waste of HBs/$ you could use for other projects or other bling for this guy.

I’d also mention that the horse search can be a great resource for these quandaries..though it often provides more inspiration and fewer answers! If you search for hom chinchilla and restrict your search to only Foundations you can see how other people’s projects turned out and also see where maybe there are gaps in the market or things you really love or dislike.

Chinchilla turns red into white, so you can actually use the DP to make the white extra white. Check out this guy, my secret I can't keep anymore :P -

This is a bay with hom DP and hom Sooty+, and chinchilla doesn't actually alter black. Which means anything that alters black will show through, like the chocolate in this case.
