Gene Mod difficulty
-
Is there any reason I cannot add Z to this horse? He is a second generation and has never been bred. It will let me add it to a 3G but not to either of my two black 2Gs. I used the GMT on something else so I can't show you the exact error message. It said something like "this horse already has z allele". Nothing shows up on his genetic code for either z or Z. Am I doing it wrong?IAM WolfDen #50695

You cannot add silver because neither of his parents have it.
When GMTing lined horses, you can only add to them genes their parents have.Love,

Neither if the parents have Z. The way gene mod works, a gene can only be added if either of the parents have it. So the only way to add Z would be if one of the parents has it.Home of Big N' Bruised and Shine High Bootstraps

Well, I wish I'd known that before. This changes my plans. Thanks for the information!IAM WolfDen #50695

On foundation horses - the ones from the create page, whose Family shows all Foundation Horses, you can GMT any available gene.
On lined horses, as specified above, you may only change within the parent's options. So of the mare is homozygous w20, I cannot remove the w20 or change it. If the mare is heterozygous w20 and heterozygous roan, then I can change the w20 for roan or vice versa.
I tend to forget this when I go on buying sprees - I'll bring a horse home and then realize "oops, I can't change that" LOL
Also worthy of note - while there is no age limit to GMT a horse, if the horse has any living offspring then no GMT changes can be made. They won't even show up in your list of GMTable horses.Folly's Fantasies #43484 (she/her): Horses, straws, and eggs from my Doubleskunk tribute herd are always free.Thanked by 1SummertreeFarms
