Genetic Hunt

Hello and Welcome to the challenging Genetic Hunt Contest, I am your host Gen for my first contest: Genetic Hunt - This Contest is ultimately a guess the correct colour but first you have to find the other horses who will lead you to said horse. This game is designed to make you look over a horse and help understand genetics, as well as get an understanding to how the horse search system in game works. This game will run for 1 week ending on: The 7th of April. This is open to all accounts. Pay attention to comments for clues :)
Bellow is an outline of the Game.

Game Info

You will be given the difficult task of finding 3 horses using your search horses tab (found within the community tab) within this search tab there are three tabs all will be useful "Key Filters" "Base Colours" and "Patterns"
Your First horse will lead to the second horse and second horse will lead you to your last horse
This is a points rated system, whoever has the most points at the end of the contest wins. Easy right?

Points System

1 Point: How many tack pieces do I have?
1 point: Has this horse been sold before?
1 point: Correct Tattoo - Tell me does he or she have a tattoo? just Yes/No - Do NOT state what the tattoo is
1 point: Does this horse have fantasy genes? Yes/No. If yes how many? and what colour are they? Purple/Orange
1 Point: What is this horses ID number?
1 Point: What colour is this horses eye?
1 Point: For every correct word in the colour name
1 point: For every correct allele - You guess E/E and this horse is E/E
.5 Point: for inccorect allele but still correct colour - You guess e/E but the horse is E/e, if you guess e/e you get no points
- 1 point for every incorrect allele - you guess Ccr/- the horse doesnt have cream at all. Therefor you loose a point
2 Points: For finding an example and linking it here

First Horse

I am hom Black, Het Bay. I am hom for a gene that does NOT lighten my coat and het for a gene that darkens my coat. I also have roan pattern, and I have fantasy genes. You will know youve found the horse when the owner notes say "Congratulations Gentic Hunt Player! You found the first horse" this horse will lead you to your second horse!

Remember you need to use all tabs in the search horses to make the search easier. When it comes to guessing the foals colour use both Dam and sire to make a guess

Clarification question - when you say accounts younger than 2 years, do you mean game years (i.e. two months) or actual years?

Is there a hint to narrow down fantasy genes? If I leave them all available I get 37 pages of horses to sort through. I don't think I'm very good at this :))

If you're down to 37 pages you're doing a good job. It's hard for me to replicate your searches because I know what the horse is.
Let me think for a sec and see if I can give you a hint that won't give it away.
But I will continue to give one hint every day or two until someone finds it since this one is pretty challenging. :)

Additional Hint: Horse number 1 has four different fantasy alleles. One of them is Nexus.

I get the feeling I'm misinterpreting the lightening/darkening genes. I'll try again with a fresh head tomorrow

@Ellesmere00, I would also be double checking the search parameters after you click search the first time- I don't know if it is a bug or a system glitch but I will have gone through 2 pages of horses then notice that one of the parameters I set specifically has been reset (i.e. I searched for horse with 2 sooty genes then after a while, I notice the horses being presented in the search is coming up with only 1 sooty gene or none). Looking at the search parameter, it would indicate that I am wanting to see horses with at least 1 sooty gene when I specifically said 2 sooty genes must be present. Just a heads up and something to take in consideration if it is a system bug.

Yes, there does seem to be some sort of a search bug in which parameters are reset. So double check the parameters before scrolling through the results.

If you enter in everything correctly including the clues it will bring the search down to 2 pages

Congratulations everyone! This was such a fun game!

I thought this was a very well thought out and unique game with searching for that right horse then using the clues to look for the right one and really forces people to use the search tabs to look. Only thing might be being a tiiiiiiny smidge less ambiguous with wording. For example, heterozygous for a lightening gene could refer to silver, champagne, dun, and so on as these are all examples of diluting genes, and thus really opens up a massive amount of potential candidates. That is part of all the fun though and I enjoyed looking at the different horses while playing with the search bar. Other than that, I thought it was a good challenging game that was interesting to work through! Hope to see more of these kinds of contests soon!

How did you figure out the het DP and het GP?
What does this mean? ECA3PPATN1/ECA3P+ and how would you figure it out?

DP you sort of need to know. Guessing Game's sire is a Cherry Drop rank special, and those are homozygous for DP by definition (which you only know if you were around when they were released, because their Herd Helper description doesn't say). Because He is DPDP, that guarantees the foal got one copy of DP (so, DPdp).
GP also you just need to know - and I did add two copies of GP to this stud (although in hindsight I have zero idea WHY I did so). So the Foal is het for GP (gpGP)
ECA3P is appaloosa blanket size, and that one shows up in your genetic testing. + is a smaller blanket, and PATN1 gives you all those gorgeous spots.

That is really helpful to see the changes one at a time. I had no idea Splash M would dilute the color so much. I can't really tell what GP did but the satin makes him shiny shiny.

This was a really interesting contest, I enjoyed the trials and tribulations of using the horse search in all its glory, I honestly didn’t think I was going win in any way. I started looking two hints in and had to leave it and come back because I wasn’t getting anywhere close, I for sure thought I might have guessed some things wrong because I’m more familiar with the specifics of real life quarter horse genetics than anything else and most of that is what I remover from hearing it through my childhood.

I think I’ve gotten alright at figuring out the game genetics as well as better at real life genetics because of hunt and jump and the amazingly smart people here, from Ammit herself to just absorbing the info in the beginners barn (now player support) you guys are awesome and sweet people!

Thank y’all for putting this together it was super fun (especially with current world events) ❤️

I love the idea, but the wording was difficult. What were the lightening and darkening genes?
I will admit that after I searched through 10 pages of horses and realised I'd barked up the wrong tree twice I gave up.
I'd love to follow the rest if the clues if I can get guidance with the first part

@Ellesmere022, The darkening gene was sooty. Which by process of eliminiation it had to be--you can't search for DP, and there are no other darkening genes.
