What do i include in a horse's name?
-
I am picking out names for these horses but have no idea what to include in their names! Do i include any genes in their names, I have no idea!

I would include his gen as he's a 5G I'd name him something like 5G Black Snow or something I'd combine some form of a mix from names of his ancestry.
7483740
This foal is bootstrap (uneven) so I'd have no idea how to name this one
7301847
The rest are foundation horses so they don't need anything special you can but 1G in their name but it doesn't matter. Name them what you wantWolfgang Pride ID 554
Always willing to help. Licensed for everything. Specialize in Liver Chestnuts, Chocolate Palominos, Sabino, Tobiano. But I breed everything except Frame

Some players add prefixes or suffixes for generations or special genes, especially the ones that need to be homozygous to express themselves. Some use tattoos (needs an upgrade) instead.
On this server, I mostly use tattoos, but for generations of intact horses I simply put the number after the name. Golden Sun 3 would be an example of this for a mare or stallion of the third generation. For foundation horses, if my imagination feels a bit shaky, I'll go to an online horse name generator (there are several) and call up examples until something strikes my fancy for the horse. Often, I'll combine a couple of suggestions or make a variation. I tend to use at least two word names, for ease of combining for the names of foals, but that's not necessary.
For show horses, I pick a letter from the name of the sire for geldings or from the name of the dam for spayed mares and add a string of nonsense syllables. So, if Golden Sun 3 is a stallion, a gelding son might be named Galinthoros.
Some players have mentioned using fictional characters, song titles or lyrics and things like that to invent names for their horses.
As WolfgangPride said, "Name your horses what you want." To which I will add, "Create your own system for naming that will be most helpful to you."De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I, personally, use song titles and lyrics from one of the online lyrics sites, but I do mix and match, like SandyCreek does, as well.
I LOVE naming horses! People are tired of hearing me say that, I'm sure, but I enjoy it too much to let it bother me!Thanked by 1RedHorseBreedingFarm -
It depends on what you like, and how you want to sort your horses (if at all).
Since I have even-bred lines, I will put a number at the beginning of the name so I know immediately which generation the horse is. I also include a designation in the name for certain genes or designations that matter for my lines. So 3RM XPM L ND1 Binky would be a third generation (3RM) mare from my exceptionally perfect herd lines (XPM = ExPerf Mare). Binky also carries liver (L) and is heterozygous for ND1 (ND1...my homozygous ND1 horses have the designation hND1). It just gives me the ability to sort horses, and judge foals during pasture sorting, in a way that will help me keep track of them, and ensure they’re held against the proper standard I require for whichever line.
Ultimately, though, it’s all up to you :) and whatever is easiest for you! That’s why I love this game...it’s infinitely flexible for everyone who plays.Thanked by 1RedHorseBreedingFarm -
Personally I don’t name anything but foundTion horses, and they are designated as “f” followed by their name. So sorting them is easy in the lab for straw sales.
Show horses have their Id number.
My generation horses are listed by generation, black liver or liver, genes, paper, and whether they are superior to parents, and finally their number.
2g bl snfkpkp a sup #
This would be a Hom dp(black liver) colt. He carries one copy of snowflake and two copies of kp. He is a papered and superior to sire.
This way when looking at my horses I can dig out my Hom dp horses before my het dp for breeding or pastures. I use “l” for liver on het dp horses.
But like everybody else says whatever works for you!Thanked by 1RedHorseBreedingFarm -
I name mine with both a prefix and suffix. The prefix is my user initials: BV
The suffix includes generation number and a letter code to signify genes I find important. It's pretty handy when I'm hand breeding and don't remember exactly what horse carries which genes.
For example, this boy has the number 3 because he's third generation. The 'u' is for heterozygous mushroom (one copy mushroom allele). The 'T' is for homozygous satin (both copies of satin). The 'S' is for homozygous sooty+.
Lower case=heterozygous
Upper case=homozygous

So far I have named all my horses based on the information I've received from everyone in the comments. I am using a letter code in front of every horse's name to sort easier. r=Stallions
w=broodmares z=show mares e(eZ if show horses)=neutered or spayed. And after that I put their name(example-5G rNorthern Dancer) and then I put their level abbreviation and then their paper abbreviation.
So for example my stud is named 5G rNorthern Dancer GP S
5G for 5th generation r for Stallion GP for Grand Prix and S for Star! zDivine Wine IN(z for show mare and IN for inhand) Also I don't have an upgrade rn so she doesn't have her paper level in her name!
If you have any suggestions on how to make it better please do! -
The only hitch I can see about your system is that by including their showing levels, you will be making changes every time they level up. That won't be too much extra work as long as your stable remains very small. When it starts getting larger, you may want to remove that part, or just wait until they level off and are staying in the same level for extended times or even until they age out.De gustibus non disputandum. I don't generally name mine. Just in case you want some MORE ideas, here's how I name my horses.
I have several different lines: Axiom (AX), Chocolate (CMB), Mushroom (MU), Nacre (NA), Nexus (NX), Onyx (OX), and Watercolor (WC).
Studs will get names (I use a Character Name Generator web site) but mares only ever get their ID number. I include a short abbreviation of which genes they have, so that if I am choosing from the pasture drop-down menus I can decide between this stud and that without opening their individual pages.
One of my foundation Axiom boys: AXG1 Chylotl 5373169 XBXR (AXG1=Axiom Generation 1; Name; ID#; XBXR=het axiom blue, het axiom red)
My foundation for the Chocolate herd: CMB1 Cherry Mocha Breve 5349377 His name says it all, with no need for gene codes - he's a Cherry Drop foundation with hom Chocolate and Splash M (Macchiato).
From the Mushroom herd: MUG3s 5460449 DPhMU (MUG3s=Mushroom generation 3 superior to sire (or dam if appropriate); ID#; DPhMU=het DP and hom Mushroom) The lowercase h indicates homozygous. This one is hom DP and het Mushroom: MUG4s 5223027 hDPMU.
This stud really has too many genes to list, so he got a memorable name instead WCG1 Dragoculum 5294116, and this one will get the same shortly NXG1 5325396 hNXWCNAOX
I also have some studs who see very infrequent use whose names basically include their color and any fun genes.
zG1 3505540 Blue Rn App I13 hPr
zG1 4425470 Liver w10 hMU hCHN
zG1 4679942 Silver Bay I3 19
zG1 5174480 Cnut Sps Olw GhoPum
All offspring get comparison tested, and the "s" added to their prefix (ie. MUG3s, AXG2s) if superior. I cull any AGA foals to the show barns.
