Strategies to Breed Worse Horses
-
Several months ago, I bred a stallion that tested inferior to our infamous Wreck It Ralph.
(
WR WJ)
Since then, I've been trying to see if I can breed 'down' and see how bad of a foal I can produce by crossing his offspring with each other. It has been proving difficult - so far, a few offspring have tested as good as WJ but most have tested superior to him. I have not yet managed to breed a horse that tests inferior to their parents.
I've started wondering if there is a lower limit to how 'bad' a horse can be. I know a few others have been tinkering with the bad boys - have any of you noticed a similar obstacle?
Are there breeding approaches that are worse others. Is creating embryos a more risky breeding tactic than in hand breeding without pasture bonus? -
My approach is definitely no pasture bonus.
I do not know if there is an advantage to hand breeding over embryos. I tend to breed embryos as I flush the worst of my foundation mares.
After creating Failed/Showable Only horses each year I have come up with a collection that I have never got a horse that is inferior. I am probably up to over 50 compares or more. That however does not mean that I am as low as I can get, just that I haven't found inferior breeders. When I breed the worst to the worst (about 10 foals per pairing per year - 30 total), I only rarely get a one that tests as good as, most are superior. I think that is because the game is geared to improve in each generation.
So yes I believe there is a lower limit (that is just how code normally works) but I do not know if I have reached it yet.
