Debating a 1% boost/question added!
-
I'm not looking for this guy to paper A, and I may find some red foundation girls to breed to, more than likely creates I'll make, to see if it helps improve his foals. With a 30+ day pasture bonus on 9 mares I got 2 fillies that papered blue but didnt fit my ideal for the line so they got snipped! But I want to know would it be worth it if I do slightly boost?

Only nine foals is a very small number to judge breeding ability from. And two blues from nine is actually really good. While a one percent boost would slightly increase your chances of 2G blues I don't think you would see a giant difference.Thanked by 1InTheStars92

It’s kind of a gamble. Breeding him as is to red papered mares with a full 30 day pasture bonus should be enough to at least get superior red mares or blue mares. When you start boosting your B papered studs, it makes them better than the mares and can decrease the chances of getting intact foals. I personally wouldn’t boost him, especially if the mares didn’t have full bonus. That bonus helps close the bottom range that the foals can be produced from, giving you a better chance at intacts.Thanked by 1InTheStars92

Another question! Should I keep both red and blue gen 2? And if so should I use an A gen 2? Or a B?
-
I would use A for gen 2, and keep your blue mares and any red mares that pass SBA or test superior to their dams (depending on what you have access to, I would do both).
-
I agree with FallenShadows. That's what I would do.
-
Thank you guys! I dont have access to SBA on this account though! So comparisons may be done

@InTheStars the people above have given you some good advice if your goal is to increase the quality of your line quickly while sacrificing quantity. Breeding all exceptional quality foundations (Red and B) with full pasture bonus I still probably only get a 10-15% A/Blue rate of gen 2 offspring, but get probably a 60% SBA pass rate. That means I’m snipping a LOT of perfectly good breeders. I have more breeding stock than I really need, so I don’t mind that. But if you are working to make up full pastures, or if you don’t have room to make sure all your mares always have full pasture bonus, you may find it simpler to have more modest goals for increase in quality and not frustrate yourself with low #s of fillies to breed, especially if you are going to cull hard on color/pattern.
You can always ramp up your quality requirements later when you have more breeders than you need.
Remember, there is no right or wrong way to breed in this game. If it is seeming like work, or it’s just frustrating, then maybe take a step back and reevaluate.
Not saying don’t take their advice, just saying think about the best way to use your resources and time so you have fun!
