Boosting Question
-
I got this stunning boy from an egg and straw my secret Santa sent me and I would like to boost him up to an A papered. I am hoping someone can advise me whether it is better to start with a 1 percent boost or a 5 percent. I know it's not an exact science I would just like some advice. He tested as good as his sire who is a B papered foundation.
CH 2Sundara -
I would do a bit more comparison testing on him first. How does he comp to a low A? Do you have any B papered studs that test superior to an ExPerf/ExPro that you could test him against? Doing these tests will tell you if it’s even possible to boost him to an A, since he could technically be a 103% or 104% breeding ability and still comp test AGA sire. And neither of those breeding abilities, even with a 5% boost, will get him to an A.
If you don’t have a stud that is B papered and superior to an ExPerf, I have this guy you can borrow to use for comp testing. He tested superior to his sire, an Accomplishment RS.

He tested worse than my B who tested superior to an ExPerf. So if an ExPerf can get a 5 percent boost to be an A, is the reason you think he might not be able to get to an A is because he might be a tiny bit worse than his sire?
-
So your colt tested AGA his sire, meaning he is in a 103-107% breeding ability range. The fact he tested worse than your B papered boy who is superior to an ExPerf means he cannot be a 107%. It’s possible he could be a 106%, if the other B papered boy is at the top of the B range at 109%. That would be the absolute highest he could be, a 106%. But it’s also entirely possible he could be a 103%.
Do you have any guys who test worse than an ExPerf, but are still B papered? That would mean this stud is within a 101-102% range, and if your colt tests AGA this stud then you know he’s no higher than a 104% (meaning even a full 5% boost won’t make him an A).
To answer your question, yes it’s possible he’s not able to reach an A since it’s possible he’s just a tiny bit worse than his sire. But without being able to test against a B paper who is worse than an ExPerf, we can’t really know where he falls.
(Also, I will clarify I have always been told it’s a 2% range on either side to test AGA when I have asked in the past). -
If you don’t happen to have a stud that matches the requirements I described, I have this guy you can borrow that missed being snipped. He’s AGA his sire (100% breeding ability, Cherry Drop RS), which makes him worse than an ExPerf.

Unfortunately (or luckily) all my B papered boys are superior or as good an an ExPro. If you don't mind I would love to borrow your horse. We can do it through my chat. I'll add you.

This is kind of close to the rule about buying or selling horses to use a feature on an upgraded account. Please wait til I can check with Ammit before you do anything. I may be wrong, but I wouldn't want anyone to take the chance and get in trouble.
-
@ConfluenceFarms Can do! I thought since we were both premium accounts it would be alright, if it helps Painted Dreams can keep the horse. He would have wound up snipped and in a show barn or auction here anyway.
-
Let me know Confluence. I don't want to do anything that's not okay.
-
It will be tomorrow before we get an answer. The more I look at it the more I think it's ok, but, like I said, why take the chance.
-
I would also see how he compares to a perfect foundation (100% breeding ability). If he compares AGA you know he is lower than his sire (102-103%) and that even a 5% boost wouldn't get him to an A level paper.
Gorgeous colt by the way =DID 43830
It's nice to be back! :)

Thank you! I'm super happy with him. The first colt I got from the cross was a brindle but got snipped so I'm hoping I can make this guy work! I'll see about testing him with a perfect foundation.
HEARTBROKEN
Thanks for checking for us Confluence! Let us know what Ellie says.

In general, I discourage people from swapping horses like that as it is generally a bad idea and a good way to lose a horse, but since you both have the same upgrade there is nothing against the rules about it.Need to contact me? I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Thanks for letting us do this Ammit!
@FallenShadows he did test superior to your boy so I think I'm going to give the 5 percent boost a try. Crossing my fingers that gets him there! I put your stud back up for you. Thanks so much for lending him to me! -
@PaintedDreams Good luck! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that he crosses that A threshold.
-
Hooray! We are now an A! Thanks to @FallenShadows and @HTRanch for your help. If y'all own a chinchilla license I would be happy to send you some free straws when he is of age. :D

Breeding for all version of black drafts using chimera foundations.
Help me build my black brindle army!
Always looking to buy B/Red foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.
I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me. -
I’m so happy he was high enough to hit A! Unfortunately I don’t have the chinchilla license, but I would love a show baby or two from him
-
