GMT Advice for this Brindle Bundle.
-
SNLT IV CloudStrife
He's a fourth gen surprise brindle!
I've lowered his white factor from 'Extensive" to "zilch" but his poor stripes still aren't visible :(
EDIT: Zebra stripes for now!Breeding quality pintaloosa riding horses and ponies - and having fun with it! -
The problem is he is Hom Lp and Hom PATN1. The Hom Lp means he’s a few spot Appaloosa, and the Hom PATN1 makes it so the blanket spreads across most or all of his body. I looked at his parents, and the only options you have is to remove the dams copy of Lp, and the sires copy of PATN1.Thanked by 1Sunlit

Hmmm. Alright, I'll try that. Thanks!Breeding quality pintaloosa riding horses and ponies - and having fun with it!

If you just remove a copy of Lp, he will turn into almost a full leopard Appaloosa. Removing a copy of PATN1 will reduce the size of the blanket, so doing both will make it so his head, neck, and forelegs should be black (possibly more, it just depends).Thanked by 1Sunlit

I'd first try just removing one PATN1. It can remove enough to make some visible, and he'd still be hom appy. If that doesn't work like you want, I'd then remove an appy. Since brindle may not show well on a het appy, hom PATN1 horse. That's what I'd do.Love,
Chase ♡Thanked by 1Sunlit -
If she removes from the dam, will the offspring already created be affected!?Thanked by 1Sunlit

@WindSongStables She cannot GMT the mare, since it has been bred and there is a foal. But she can GMT the foal to change what was inherited from the dam. When you look at the genes, the first allele of a gene is what was inherited from the sire, and the second allele is what was inherited from the dam. So the dam was only heterozygous for the appy (Lp) gene, meaning only half of the time will the mare pass on the Appy gene. So to achieve the desired look, you can remove the inherited Appy gene from the dams side of the allele to get an Appaloosa that actually shows the spots. Then, since the sire is only heterozygous for the PATN1, meaning he will not have a full body blanket of spots, the inherited copy can be removed from the foal to create a smaller blanket and allow some of the brindle markings to show.Thanked by 1Sunlit

Alright. On turning him het-PATN, you can finally see his brindle! Thanks for the advice, everyone!Breeding quality pintaloosa riding horses and ponies - and having fun with it!

Nevermind - just saw he already had my suggestion! Really should stop distracting myself from studying. My brain is only half functional!Thanked by 1Sunlit
